Dear Lighthouse Community,
As the academic year comes to a close, we are delighted to bring to you the final newsletter of the term, summarizing all of our activities over the past two semesters! Our monthly communications will resume after the holidays in August, with information about the next recruiting season.

Lighthouse Updates


Following many changes within the executive board over the last months, here is our newest update:
  • Now that Alessandro has taken on the role of President of Lighthouse, we are pleased to welcome Chiara Taroni as the new Head of Consulting!

Business Development Department
Over the course of the past year, the department has:
  • Organized 4 events:
    Sustainability Tips: 30+ attendees, 3 speakers from sustainability consulting
    Stand for Ukraine: the event had support from almost all ESCP societies, support from ESCP4U, 1 speaker (Georgiy), 15+ attendees 
    Climate Fresk: collaboration with Oikos and GEA

    Sustainability Career Roundtable: event that was part of the GoGreen conference organized by Oikos
  • Built internal partnerships with other sustainability societies at ESCP: GEA and Oikos
  • Changed Lighthouse's legal status from NGO to non-profit
  • Published an Insights Report

Sales Department
  • Associates have contacted +160 companies, which led to 5 deals being closed this year, with Wellin, Bonsai, Modus Intarsia, Birds for Changes & Swoop Energy
  • The department developed new materials for Lighthouse, including Brochures (EN, FR, IT), Emails templates (EN, FR, IT), Email signatures, a (New) Networking tracker, a database of Targeted companies, a Client spreadsheet, Client satisfaction survey, and a Job offer publication template. 

Marketing Department
This year, marketing associates worked on a range of deliverables, including:
  • Establishing a new strategy and KPIs for Instagram
  • Achieving a new reach for LinkedIn posting
  • Adopting a new Branding Proposal
  • Implementing a new Project Management structure to better organize activities for the upcoming year
  • Formatting of the sales brochure 
  • Successful development of the Guides on Instagram and the “Consulting Shots” posts
  • Diversification of the tasks for each marketing associate, starting from January with a focus on the content and the interactions with followers. 

Human Resources Department
  • The HR associates launched a Newsletter, of which 5 issues have already been published (you are currently reading the last issue of the term!)
  • Started a Weekly Update communications message on the Whatsapp group, to ensure that all members of Lighthouse are informed of the society's activities
  • Organized 2 workshops - one by an associate who shared her Sales experience, and another which focused on developing public speaking and presentation skills
  • Shared Feedback surveys which provided interesting insights for how the society can organize itself going forward.
  • Developed an onboarding guide for new associates

Associates of the Month

For May, we once again have two Associates of the month! Give it up for Beatrice Mocciaro and Tristan Bonafous
Beatrice has showed commitment to Lighthouse by taking up the new task of writing an insights report. The paper was fully researched and written by her, with the help of the marketing team for the visuals. Beatrice proved passion for some of the core values of our society, sustainability and entrepreneurship. She wasn’t afraid to ask for additional information to deliver a high-quality product, and also proved to be extremely independent and autonomous in the process. Congrats, Beatrice!

Tristan took up the role of Business Development associate only a couple of months ago, but already has been capable of showing how success is delivered at the extra mile. He showed initiative by coming up with creative workshops, helping out to draft a more concrete value proposition for the society, and was extremely cooperative towards his fellow associates. Last week, he hosted Lighthouse’s Career Roundtable and proved to be a great communicator. Thank you for all your help, Tristan!

Consultancy Projects

Missions carried out this past term:

  • Positive Carbon (food tech - 2020, Ireland): in order to fight food waste, Positive Carbon proposes a fully automated waste monitoring system for hotels and big restaurant groups. This way, the clients can track and log all food waste and change their purchasing habits/save money and reduce food waste.
    • Our mission: create a “guide” to internationalize their product
    • Started: December
    • Ending: end of May
    • Where we are now: after delivering the first bucket of the project on 'regulations and policies' to the client, the team has just begun the second bucket - a market analysis targeting Germany, France, Italy and Spain, which will be completed by the end of May.
    • Responsible AssociatesCarine Baroud (team leader), I-Hsuan Cheng, Tom Dufresne, Emma Kupper
  • Modus Intarsia (fashion) - they transform dogs' naturally shed undercoats into premium, upcycled and sustainable yarn. The yarn is then used to manufacture high-quality clothes pieces.
    • Our mission: research the best marketplaces for sustainable brands
    • Started: February
    • Concluded: Early May
    • Achievements: the team conducted research on the different channels that the client could operate through. They then carried out a competitor analysis, based on which a strategy was developed for MI. They delivered a report and presentation at the beginning of this month, which was appreciated by the client. 
    • Responsible AssociatesChiara Taroni (team leader), Rose-Salomé LagaillardeGiulia VenutiBenedict Witte
  • Birds for Change (waste management) - can you recycle your waste properly? Birds now do: this startup trains corvids (known for their intelligence) to collect waste in order to reduce urban waste. The final objective is to raise awareness and make biodiversity mainstream, by changing the reputation of these birds considered harmful.
    • Our mission: research the budget of local French authorities to raise awareness of waste in cities - how much does incivility and waste collection cost? What is the impact on biodiversity? What is the budget for communication in this area?
    • Started: mid-March
    • Ended: mid-April
    • Achievements: the team presented their research on the costs of incivility, as well as strategic insights about how the client could leverage digital marketing and nudges. They also delivered a new graphic charter. The client was happy with the project, and has offered to promote Lighthouse!
    • Responsible Associates: Maé Oddone (team leader), Louis HeraudLinda MenguzzoVictor Nouvel
  • Swoop Energy (energy - 2021, Lille - FR): as the market for electric vehicles increases, their batteries are becoming more and more of an issue. Swoop Energy aims at designing low-power electric generators to give a second life to these objects.
    • Our mission: analyse the market of small electric generators, their uses, demand and costing, number of events and potential sponsor partners in France & Europe.
    • Started: February
    • Ended: April
    • Achievements: The team delivered a research report and presentation with market size research about Audio-visual productions and Outside events, as well as some specific subdivisions of these segments. 
    • Responsible Associates: Margherita Nicolini (team leader), Lea Khater, Pauline de Montlivault Guyon, Luca Vetrano
