November 2020

Monument Family,

November is upon us so let me be the first to wish you a “Happy Thanksgiving!” I must admit that the call to “rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18) has been challenging in 2020. Lord, did you really mean “everything?” Honestly, I’m struggling to live with an attitude of gratitude during a global pandemic that is just starting to really impact our community and church family. I find it hard to thank God for the separation we’re feeling, for the isolation so many of you are enduring, for the increased sickness & hospitalizations in our community, for the exhaustion so many people are experiencing in this season, and for the polarization that it’s causing in our churches across the nation. Lord, have mercy on us! I confess my lack of gratitude and renew my commitment to give thanks in every circumstance. Thank you, Lord, for loving us, leading us, and providing all that we need in You.
  • Please continue to pray for our search for a part-time youth pastor. We are currently receiving applications. If you have a potential candidate in mind, please direct them to the Student Ministry Position on our website for more information. We've already received a couple of applications. I’m excited for God’s provision and leading as we take this step to bring someone on staff to minister to our jr. high and sr. high students.

  • The Missions Team is inviting everyone to encourage our missionaries during the Christmas season. Scroll down in this newsletter to find more information on how you can be a part of this special effort.

  • Thanks for your ongoing patience as we navigate doing life and ministry differently during the global pandemic. The spread of the virus is rapidly increasing in our community right now. We’ll continue to worship in the gym to foster social distancing and livestream the service in the sanctuary for those who desire/need to worship in a mask-only environment. The elders will continue to monitor the risk based on information from our local public health officials and make decisions that are in accordance with His Word and promote loving Him and others. Let’s continue to minister to one another in tangible ways during this season.
November is the month of thanksgiving, but it’s much more than a holiday. I’ve been convicted of my lack of gratitude in 2020. I’ve renewing an effort to “count my blessings.” I’m thankful that Jesus is building His Church. I’m thankful that He is at work in and through us as a church. I’m thankful that we’re fulfilling our mission of developing dedicated followers of Jesus Christ who worship, grow, love, and share all for the glory of God. I’m thankful for you! This gratitude thing is contagious! May thanksgiving flood our hearts this month and in each moment of our lives.

I love you – serve Him well (and gratefully).

In Christ,
Pastor Jeff
The Monument Bible Church Missions Team would like you to join us by giving a monetary gift and sending Christmas cards to our missionaries.
  1. Instead of asking you to send individual gifts, we would like you to give a generous monetary gift to be divided among the sixteen missionary families we support. We will have a gift jar at each entry throughout the month of November, or you may mail your check to the church office or give online (designate as "missions"). Please consider a gift similar or greater than what you gave when we had the missionary Christmas tree. Let's bless them exceedingly abundantly!

  2. Please take a card, address label, and stamp and write a note of encouragement to one of our missionary partners. Some suggestions of what to write are:
    • News from Monument Bible Church
    • Something about yourself/family
    • A favorite Scripture verse
    • Praying for you today
    • Wishes for Christmas and the New YEar
    • Gratitude and thanks for serving on the mission field.
Thank you for prayerfully considering and serving!!
You are invited to our next STARTING POINT gathering on Wednesday, Nov. 4th at 6:30 p.m. (at Pastor Jeff's - 1900 Davis Ave.) You will learn more about Monument Bible Church and connect with Pastor Jeff and a few others in our church family. Our time together will be casual and relaxed!

A note from Children's Team Leader, Dez Hascall

It's a wonderful time to think about the things we are thankful for including our family, friends, and church. Here at MBC, we are thankful for the beautiful smiles we get to see. We are thankful for each and every little one that we see each Sunday.  We know that not everyone has been able to return in person, but we pray & hope to see you all soon.

We will be launching a fun in-person and virtual event for the children.  We will be doing Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse.  We will be putting together boxes, November 15th & 22nd.  We will be doing this during children's church and Sunday School on those two Sundays.  If your child would like to participate, these are some ideas for items to donate: toy cars, yo-yos, toothbrushes, combs, pens, crayons, stickers, socks, watches, and toy jewelry.  Please avoid anything with liquid or items that are breakable.  Our goal is to donate 10 boxes.  If you are not able to participate in person, you and your child can drop items off at church, Tuesday-Friday, 8:30a-12:30p, through Nov.19th.  I will be delivering the boxes after church on the 22nd.

The coronavirus situation has deeply impacted our number of volunteers. We are in serious need of more volunteers in order to keep children's church and nursery going.  Even 2-3 people who could commit once a quarter or even twice a year would be helpful.  Children's church is all prepped for you with activities and a lesson. Children's Church is about 40 minutes.  You just need to read through the lesson and watch the DVD lesson with the children and do the activity with them.  We also are in need of people to help with nursery. Nursery is from 9:30-Noon.  Who doesn't like to rock a cute chubby baby?   If you are interested, please reach out to me at dezhascall@gmailcom or call/text me at 308-279-0011.

It's exciting to see what God is doing during these unprecedented times.  We all desire to be together, but we know that circumstances are preventing that during this time.  If you are in need of any in-home lessons for your kids or a desire for some virtual activities, please reach out to me and we will find a way for your child/children to participate.  Please be in prayer for our ministry, our children, and our wonderful volunteers.   -Dez Hascall
GriefShare is hosting "Surviving the Holidays," a special gathering open to anyone who is grieving a loved one’s death. You will learn how to deal with the many emotions you will face during the holidays, what to do about traditions and other coming changes, helpful tips for surviving social events, and how to discover hope for your future. If you know of anyone at church or in the community who would benefit, please let them know about this opportunity! Attendees are welcome to bring a sack lunch, if they desire. Please RSVP by calling the church at 632-4099.
Each month we will be highlighting one or two missions that Monument supports. Please take some time to check out our missionary's websites and learn more about their ministries. An encouraging email, phone call, or letter would surely be appreciated, as well!
