Emma's Spectacular Solo Stage Race!

Jen interviews Emma to learn more about her five days of riding on some of Oregon's most beautiful trails!
Earlier this month, Emma decided to become a race promoter and put on her very own race: Emma's Spectacular Solo Stage Race! She made routes in her home state of Oregon that would be challenging, beautiful, and remote. She camped in her van and also served as her very own mechanic, chef, and masseuse! Oh, and YES, Emma won her own stage race.

After the "race," we were so excited to hear about her adventure and its little intricacies so Jen interviewed Emma! Yes, the stats are cool but it's much more fun to hear about the "craziest thoughts she had" while out on the trail. We hope you enjoy this interview as much as we did!
Emma picked a beefy Kenda Regolyth 2.4 all-mountain tire for her stage race so she would have traction on anything and be able to smash her tires into sharp rocks without flinching (not that she recommends that!).

The KS Kenda Women Had a Trash Pick-Up Day!

With outdoor areas seeing more use than ever, we have noticed that there is also more trash than ever! Instead of talkin' trash to people littering, we decided to plan a campaign with our partner GU Energy and their passion project, TerraCycle. Over five days, we used our social media to introduce TerraCycle, give tips on how to join their program, and ultimately had a "Trash Pick-Up Day" where we each went to our local trailheads and spent a couple hours cleaning the areas. It was incredible to see the response on social media and even more incredible to see the amount of trash we picked up! This project really gave us a feeling of connection, which is something we have been missing with not being able to race together.
Fun Facts from Trailhead Trash
  • Most common litter: wrapper corners
  • Second most common: plastic cups
  • Oddest: two dolls purposefully arranged
  • Gross Trash: used TP at each location. EEEW!
  • Treasures: pink plastic ring
  • Most common gel flavor: vanilla
  • Bike parts: reflectors
While chatting about their mutual love of cycling and the Philadelphia area, Alli shared her reluctant biking beginnings, how her family and collegiate team shaped her riding passion, and her progression into elite mountain biking with the N+1 Cycling Podcast.
Alli sat down virtually with Geoff and Gerry of The N+1 Cycling Podcast by LowLands Cycling in early July. This podcast began in April as a quarantine project with a focus on the Pennsylvania cycling scene. They have interviewed some impressive local talents including USA Cycling's Track Team member Mandy Marquardt, and when they asked Alli to be a guest she said, "sure thing!"

Rider Update!
Jen has been putting in more trail time (and KS dropper time) than ever! Riding three to eight hours of single-track a week is no small feat when living in Columbus, OH.

Alli did a 60 mile gravel event, The Brandywine Valley Roubaix, in her community with her Dad as her ride partner. So Cool.

Emma has been exploring remote peaks in the Old Cascades and decided a smaller (Shimano M9100 30T) chainring was a good thing!

Nikki has the Rim Nordic TT style MTB race series to participate in and she won the first race by 5 minutes and 30 seconds. She said she felt really strong!
We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy during this time with and without the bike!
