Welcome back eFAMILIES!

Kia orana ki to tatou au kōpu tangata o te eFAMILY!

Happy New Year and welcome to the first edition of Te Kura ‘Akarangatira for 2022. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoyed your well-deserved break with family and friends.

To kickstart the year, we wanted to share the amazing work of one of our eFAMILIES, Tei Mua Tatou. Tei Mua Tatou is a free Cook Islands student service group who are motivated to harness the potential of every Cook Island student living and studying in Mangere. They provide secondary students with the tools, resources, and support to finish their secondary schooling right up until the completion of their chosen studies. This week they collaborated with Remojo Tech and Recycle-A-Device to provide an IT device repair workshop for Cook Island Year 11 to Year 13 students.

We also wanted to share with you the upcoming market opportunities and business workshops/programmes available for you to participate in this year.

Tei Mua Tatou x Remojo Tech
Device Repair Workshop

On Monday 24th January we had the privilege of attending the Tei Mua Tatou’s IT workshop that was held at the Mangere Hawks Rugby Club. In collaboration with Remojo Tech and Recycle-A-Device, Tei Mua Tatou were able to provide a device repair workshop for 30+ Cook Island high school students where they learned how to repair and refurbish a laptop in preparation for the beginning of the school term.

Nielson Manu, Tei Mua Tatou’s IT specialist shared that the purpose of this workshop is to “teach our mapu (youth) about how to keep their devices working in their favour. This workshop prepares students for high school by encouraging them to be connected in their studies with their devices and make schooling easier for them. It’s also an awesome opportunity for them to pick up a new skill and introduces them to different career pathways.”

Watching our Kuki Youth come together and learn about how to utilise their devices was an awesome experience to be a part of.

If you know someone of Cook Island descent who is Year 11 to Year 13 and who is need of support with their schooling this year you can contact the team at Tei Mua Tatou via teimuatatounz@gmail.com.
