On 6 August 2022, Te Maeva Nui o Aotearoa Charitable Trust proudly presented the first-ever Kapa Nui Aotearoa Festival which was established to showcase our incredible Kūki ‘Āirani culture and talent. The festival coincided with Cook Islands Constitution Day and te Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani. In the spirit of celebrating our Cook Islands culture and people, the event began with a morning flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the occasion. The event included three main attractions, a Tivaevae exhibition, Kapa Nui Aotearoa Dance Competition and Kapa Nui markets.
This year the Kapa Nui markets featured 25 stalls including social services, local and Cook Islands small businesses with a range of manea crafts and delicious kai. We were so pleased to have ten eFAMILY stalls – Ataahua Jewellery, Mamas Donuts, Weaved Mats, Le Uso Candles, Akari Body Treats Aotearoa, Rukau Hut, Tiare Rose Cosmetics, Mia Michael, mamas and papas of the Vainetini collective and Mama Pati’s Food Bar. Our CIDANZ team had a great time at the event supporting the opening, tivaevae exhibition and the market – we loved connecting with everyone who came through our stall.
We are so proud of the efforts of our eFAMILIES who participated in the market, congratulations to you all! It made the event even better for us to hear of the success of our eFAMILIES – some participating in a market for the first time, a few recording their best sales and especially those that were able to meet new people and make lasting connections. Here is some of the feedback we got:
-
“Everything was ka pai thanks for the opportunity.”
-
“Bianca and Tiare have always made things easier for us to set up and throughout the event they are always helpful.”
-
“Thank you, everything was easy from start to finish, tapping in while I needed a break saved me, thank you Thank you so much!”
-
“We would love to attend another event in the future.”
-
“Always feel supported by Bianca”
Thank you to our eFAMILIES who completed feedback forms, we appreciate the positive feedback and any suggestions which will help us to continue to improve our services.
A massive meitaki ma’ata to the Kapa Nui market organisers and Te Maeva Nui o Aotearoa Charitabale Trust for having CIDANZ and Enterprising Families as part of this amazing event. We look forward to participating in future events.
