We support Walking With Moms In Need
Walking With Moms In Need is a new program developed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

Your Transfiguration For Life Ministry is working directly with the Archdiocese of Atlanta to implement this new program. This new program will implement educational, pastoral, and action-oriented resources for parish use, such as:
  • Tools for documenting an inventory of local resources for pregnant mothers in need.
  • Ideas for improving parish responses.
  • Prayers for building a culture of life and a civilization of love.
  • Reflections on the teachings of Evangelium vitae, Evangelii gaudium, and Laudato si'.

Why Walking with Moms in Need?
"The challenges can be immense for women in difficult or unplanned pregnancies. 75% of women who choose abortion are low income," said Archbishop Naumann, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities.

"We have well over 17,000 parishes in the United States. Each parish is best able to identify the local pregnancy help resources that are currently available and to identify potential gaps that need to be addressed. The parish community is uniquely positioned to encourage a collaboration of resources at the local level and to increase awareness of help available to mothers and families in need," Archbishop Naumann explained.

Right now, Transfiguration RFL ministry is in the beginning, organizational stage of building this program for our parish. Mike Northway and Peggy Desiderio are co leading this effort. Watch future newsletters and our website for news of this exciting new program.

Abortions Increased in Georgia

The number of abortions performed in Georgia increased by more than 2,100 — or more than 7% — last year, according to new numbers from the state Department of Public Health.

After falling over the past decade, 2019 marked the second consecutive year the rate of reported abortions performed increased in Georgia.

The latest figures, for 2019, were released less than two weeks after a federal judge struck down Georgia’s restrictive anti-abortion law that would have banned the procedure in most cases when a doctor could detect fetal cardiac activity — typically around six weeks of pregnancy.

State records show 30,656 abortions were performed in 2019 at a rate of 9.2 abortions per 1,000 females between the age of 10 and 55, according to numbers published this month in the DPH’s vital statistics database. That is 2,122 more abortions than were reported in 2018, when 28,544 abortions were performed at a rate of 8.6 abortions per 1,000 females.

The number of births in Georgia slightly increased, with 126,051 reported in 2018 and 126,250 in 2019. According to U.S. census figures, Georgia added about 100,000 residents between 2018 and 2019.  After years of decline, the number of abortions also jumped from 2017 to 2018 by nearly 4%.

Virginia Galloway, a lobbyist with the anti-abortion Georgia Faith and Freedom Coalition, said she was sad to learn the numbers were continuing to increase.

“We’ve accepted this culture of death that is permeating our society and this year is not helping,” she said. “There’s more people who are depressed and committing suicide, so I can only imagine how horrifying the (abortion) numbers may be for 2020.”

Anti-abortion activists have questioned the accuracy of state numbers, alleging that procedures done by obstetricians/gynecologists aren’t accurately reported and that more are performed. A DPH spokeswoman said the law requires providers to report all abortions performed in the state.

Georgia passed a strict anti-abortion law last year, which supporters said was an attempt to further decrease the number of abortions that are performed in the state.

A federal judge stopped the law from ever going into effect before striking it down earlier this month. The state plans to appeal the ruling.

Pro Life Prayer of the Month

Prayer for Those Who have Lost a Child to Abortion

Lord of all Life,
You have entrusted us to the care of one another,
And called us to be one Body in Christ.

You call us to rejoice with those who rejoice,
And to weep with those who weep.

Hear our prayer today
For our brothers and sisters who have lost children to abortion.
Help us to understand
The pain that is in their hearts,
And to be a living sign to them
Of your welcome, your mercy, and your healing.

Help them to undergo with courage
The process of grief and the journey of healing.
Never allow them to feel alone;
Always refresh them with the presence of Your Spirit
And of their brothers and sisters in Christ.

Console them with the sure hope
That you love and care for their children.
Give them new strength,
That even while they grieve what they have lost,
They may look forward to all the good
That you still have in store for them.

Lord of healing and hope,
Give us all the forgiveness of our sins,
And the joy of your salvation.

We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.
