You are cordially invited to the Grand Unveiling of the Memory Lane Heritage Village “First in Nova Scotia (and possibly Canada) 100% Solar Powered Museum Installation” on Monday, July 1st, 2019 (Canada Day) at 11:30 am.
Thanks to all of you who helped out, donated what you could, shared our story and our posts, and supported us in every way you could imagine, our dream of making Memory Lane Heritage Village the first 100% solar powered museum in Nova Scotia is becoming a reality!
The installation of sixty-six 400 Watt solar panels on the roof of the Memory Lane Artifact Storage Facility is projected to generate 33-34,000 KWh per year, equal to the projected annual power consumption of Memory Lane. The installation is estimated to offset 25 tonnes of greenhouse gases per year and save Memory Lane about $5,500 per year in operational costs.
The total project cost is $79,000 (including solar panels and energy efficiency upgrades) of which $50,000 has been received via provincial government funding. The Lake Charlotte Area Heritage Society campaign to raise $29,000 to fully pay for the installation has just over $2000 left to raise. Donations can still be made online at: crowdrise.com/solarpoweredmuseum, by mail, or at the Hosking Store at Memory Lane.
We are over the moon about this announcement and are excited to share that our brand new solar array will be installed soon, and we invite you all to celebrate this success with us at our Dominion Day "Old Time" Village Fair at Memory Lane on July 1st (the 1940s version of Canada Day). There will be free admission and each person will receive a complimentary, fresh-made donut, produced on the Village’s vintage Donut Robot. Additional donuts will be available for purchase (they are delicious!) and the Cookhouse will be serving a special Dominion Day menu along with the traditional Cookhouse "Chow."
No admission fee, all are welcome. Click Here to view all the event details and schedule on the Memory Lane Heritage Village website.
Join us as we make solar powered museum history. We look forward to celebrating the success of this campaign with you!
