"You're too much in your head." I've heard this countless times. Someone pointing out I'm thinking too much and way too deeply is an opinion I'm familiar with.

Maybe you can relate or maybe like me you just get wrapped up in thoughts that become heavy over time because they keep you weighed down by what if, why, how or when.

I'm following along with a Proverbs 31 Bible study of the book written by Jennie Allen, "Get Out of Your Head, Stopping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts".

A key verse is the one that tells us to take every thought captive. (II Corinthians 2:5) I have to be honest, I have always struggled to understand this. The thought of "catching thoughts" just confuses me. Like the little children's object lesson that teaches using toothpaste squeezed from a tube, we can't put our words back in our mouth once we say them. So, am I supposed to be able to somehow grab ahold of my thoughts and toss them into a heap of bad so far away I never have them again?  See, I over-think things.

I finally began to understand when I decided to think of thoughts that would need to be translated into God's language vs. the enemy's. For example, if I think "there's no need in praying about this anymore, it's hopeless." and remind myself this is not the language of one who believes in God, I would change my thought to, "God has heard my prayer, every single one." and then I can move towards peace and trust.

A suggested activity of the Bible Study group on Facebook last week was to finish the sentence, "God is..." My reply was "good". At last count, over 300 people have shared their word. Notifications on my phone popped up and I saw all of the different answers...awesome, sovereign, kind, powerful, miracle worker, love. With every reply, I felt stronger, the activity captivated me. My thoughts were drawn towards  people like me who paused to consider what God is to them. I jotted them all down and I decided to create a painting.

I'd love to share this with you. You're welcome to download and print a copy of your own. Consider it a gift, a thought of good thoughts for you.

A series I am calling "God Sees" will have original paintings,  11X14 on paper to be added to my website http://lisaannetindal.me soon!

If you follow me on Instagram (lisa_anneart) you can follow the progress of the series.

So, think about your thoughts. Are they in need of translating, of being take captive and turned to good.

I'm a work in progress, but I'm working on it.

Keep believing!
