Specifications Grading Faculty Learning Community

It's not too late to apply to our new faculty learning community focused on specifications grading, an alternative approach to grading that prioritizes transparency, student mastery of learning objectives, careful alignment between assessments and learning objectives, and process and growth-oriented approaches to learning. During six meetings this semester, we will learn about the salient features of specs grading and help you design a scheme for one of your courses.

Meetings will start the week of October 4 and take place every other week, alternating between in person and online. Prior completion of our Course Design Institute or c3Design is required. Email Marina Escámez Ballesta, CTE Faculty Fellow, at with questions.

VIVA Open Adopt Grants

$2,000 grants are available to individual instructors who are interested in integrating existing open or no-cost materials into a syllabus. Adopted course materials must be piloted in the classroom by Spring 2023. Applications are due Monday, October 4.
