New Centre Manager Welcomed
Pauli Surtees commenced as our new Manager on the 12th April. Pauli was welcomed to our community with a mihi whakatau by representatives from Te Rereatukahia Marae led by Kaumātua Kereama Bluegum.
Pauli is originally from Wellington where she worked across Government agencies representing housing, justice, and education facilitating projects for community-based social and specialist housing, working with Treasury to fund justice sector initiatives, and working with schools to manage school infrastructure assets.  Most of the projects she has undertaken have been in partnership with the community and for community-led solutions.
Pauli moved to Waihi Beach 6 years ago and currently lives in Waihi with her husband.  She loves the climate in the BOP and will get in as much fishing and hiking as they can, weather permitting.
The Board believes that Pauli brings a positive management style and significant valuable community experience to the role and wishes her the very best. We also want to acknowledge the sterling work of Jan, Amanda & Sally, supported by Zinta Krumins during the last couple of months since Allan’s departure. Thank you for keeping our Community Centre fully engaged with our community.
The Katikati Community Centre would like to thank Shona Graham for her 25 years involvement with the organization.
Shona has been an essential part of the Community Centres journey and success, often volunteering her time in events and projects the Centre is involved in.
Shona started as a volunteer helping with a float for the Lions Christmas Parade and this followed with her involvement in the School Holiday Programme. Shona has been involved in the holiday programme almost from the start (1996) while pregnant with Phoebe her 2nd daughter. Shona is still very involved today as a much-loved tutor in the Holiday Programme.
As well as the Holiday programme Shona also works in the Katikids After School Programme as the supervisor, where she has seen many families pass through the door and made some lifelong friends.
Away from the Katikati Community Centre Shona enjoys tending to her impressive veggie garden, spending time at the beach walking and swimming and if not, outside she’ll be chilling out with a good book or cooking up a tasty feed on the Barbie
A huge thank you from the Community Centre and the many families who have placed their children in our care for all your amazing work and we look forward to many more years with you.
Member Meetings for the Centre
The Board continues to progress the proposed Charter for the Katikati Community Centre Charitable Trust. We anticipate having a draft for review by our Solicitor by the end of April. Following the approval of the solicitor, we will forward a draft to members for comments. The final document will then be brought to an SGM for adoption by the membership.
To assist the Board in the transition from an Incorporated Society Charity to an Incorporated Charitable Trust the Board has seconded Zinta Krumins to serve on the Board. Zinta has had a successful international career in senior management, retiring to New Zealand after managing a large multinational healthcare company’s business in the UK. The board is grateful for Zinta’s willingness to invest her expertise into our Centre.
Our AGM is likely to be held post the SGM. The financial report for 2020 is in draft. A new Auditor needs to be engaged, as a result of Bruce Warden leaving the district. Once the accounts are audited, we will be able to advise a potential date for the AGM.
David Marshall, KCC Board Chair, on behalf of the Board.
