"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." Colossians 3:2 NIV
It is ironic that the new year is 2020 - which in ophthalmologic terms refers to the clarity and sharpness of vision. God has a vision and plan for Living Faith Uniting Church. We will be exploring and discerning His plans for us during a special visioning day on 22 February 2020, to which the whole congregation will be invited to participate. We also have our Lenten series to look forward to, Better Together, a course which will assist us to fulfil God’s purposes for our own lives and for the greater community.
As we close the door on 2019, it is important to ask ourselves, “What do we need to let go of?” This past year may have held some painful memories, difficult conversations or treacherous circumstances that we have had to navigate. We know that God abides with us, but perhaps there is residue bitterness, anger or sorrow that we may need to release into God’s hands so that we can move freely into the new year. As our Bible verse above encourages us to do, let us focus on what is important in the bigger picture of life, and let us place any petty matter into God’s care.
The new year holds great potential for our church and by God’s grace, He will open new doors of opportunity to us. We have seen this take place in a variety of ways in 2019 and we wait expectantly on God for His provision in 2020. This extends to our personal lives as well. We can so easily get caught up in the hype of the season and miss the opportunity to linger in God’s presence, where we find rest for our souls and answers to our dilemmas.
May 2020 be the year where your God-ordained dreams and goals are fulfilled. May it be the year where we corporately experience renewed faith and energised hope! God alone can bring it all to pass and we place our trust in Him as we turn the corner into 2020.
WHEN LAST DID YOU TAKE TIME TO WATCH THE SUNSET?
Each night God paints a masterpiece for us across the sky. Each night His patterns, hues and paint-strokes differ. Each night the real-time picture beckons us to explore and appreciate its majestic appeal. Why not take time this coming month to step outside, leave the cares of this world behind, and lose yourself in the beauty of God's daily moment of creative design?
Is there a child in your life who you wish could come to church?
Why not invite them to attend our Kidz Church program which runs every Sunday during the worship session. Children are also treated to a fun story with the greater church family before heading out to their classes. Children are also invited to participate in the service at various times.
