Living Faith enews: 8 May 2020
Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Friends

"Jesus wept" John 11:35 NIV

Many people around the world are struggling through the trauma of these uncertain times. One’s idea of the future seems to change daily as rules and restrictions are either enforced or loosened. We may have all wondered over the last weeks where all of this is heading.

It reminded me that Jesus once cried over the future of Jerusalem. The photo above is of the Church of Dominus Flevit on the western slop of the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem. It was built in the shape of a tear drop as a symbolic reminder of Jesus weeping over the fate of the Holy City. Jesus understands sorrow, uncertainty and strife. He is with us as we journey through these trying days.

When I visited this chapel, I took some time out to look over Jerusalem and to pray. Each day we have at home is a gift of time which we can use to pray and to bring our uncertainties before our Lord who knows all things. Even though we may feel alone at times, we are never alone.

I hope you have been enjoying the wonderful music our worship team and other local artists have put together for us. New songs are uploaded regularly to Living Faith Uniting Church's YouTube channel.

This newsletter contains exciting information and so I commend each announcement and report to you. I also thank God for His faithfulness towards us as a community and for the way God is using our church to reach many people beyond our walls during this time. Thank you for continuing to reach out to each other.

Please get in touch if you have any specific needs that may arise. We continue to uphold each other in prayer. This coming Sunday will be focused on Mother’s Day but the message is suitable for anyone so please join us online as we celebrate separately, yet together by the Holy Spirit.

I love and miss you all!

Your friend,

The Manse refurbishment is progressing well. Great progress has been made and it is exciting to bring an update for the Congregation.
All walls, ceilings and doors are freshly painted. A new plank vinyl floor has been laid, along with new carpet in the bedrooms. Some new drapes have been hung. The louvre blinds have been refurbished, and some new ones installed. While there is some touch up painting yet to be completed, the house is looking fresh and welcoming.
The major work outstanding is the installation of contemporary lights and updating the building electrics. Also smoke alarms complying with the new regulations that come into effect in Jan 2021 remains to be installed. Quotes are currently being sourced.
Regarding rental, opportunities for rental to agencies of the Uniting Church were explored. However, UnitingCare and Wesley Mission have no current needs that match our building.
A Real Estate Agent is being engaged to find a tenant.
A huge thank you is owed to Peter Leggo and all the guys and gals who have assisted with this renovation. We look forward to the increased income that will flow from the rental of the building and which will support the mission of the church in this place.
Praise be to God.
Scott Bell
In addition to Scott’s words of thanks, I would like to express my own thanks to Peter Leggo and the entire team that have worked tirelessly over a long period of time towards completion of the work on the manse. I was privileged enough to tour the manse recently and it looks absolutely fabulous! The attention to detail, refurbishments, colours, cleanliness and warm feeling of the home made me feel so proud of everyone who has been involved in this project. We ask that God will use the manse as a place of blessing for whomever dwells in it. Thank you stewardship team, helpers and volunteers for an INCREDIBLE JOB DONE!
Rev Iris

A very big thank you to everyone for your faithful giving to the work of Living Faith during this period of social isolation.  You have been amazing.  Collections have averaged $1,970 per week since the commencement of 2020.  Our last receipt of rental income for our property was recorded on 17 March so we are currently fully dependent upon our collection to cover all expenses.
For the month of April, our expenses exceeded our incoming revenues by $2,082.  This reduced our cash bank balance from $25,459 to $23,377 by the end of April.  We have received very good news.  Our church is eligible for the Commonwealth government Jobkeeper payment from May.  This payment of $1,500 per fortnight, together with current weekly offerings, will assist in covering our expenses each month.  We give God the thanks and praise for placing our church on a sustainable footing, even in the midst of a global pandemic.
Our stewardship team has been working hard in renovating the manse and Presbytery has approved and reimbursed the renovation costs from our MDF fund which is set aside for capital improvements.  The manse will be listed for rent with a local property agent shortly.  We give grateful thanks for the wonderful efforts of our stewardship team.
