Living Faith enews: 25 May 2021
Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Friends

I recently came across a prayer for guidance from Germiston Methodist Church that I wanted to share with you. As you pray this through this, hand over to God any situation you are facing that needs His powerful pointer of direction:

Lord, I need to make a decision and to know what you want me to do. There could be a blinding light from heaven, a sudden flash of inspiration, making clear beyond doubt what I should choose. On the other hand, you may be asking me to work through this one. Help me to use the knowledge of Scripture you have given me, to see all sides of the question. May what I know of the Bible influence my decisions. May I listen to what is wise from the advise of others and be able to distinguish it from what is unwise. Give me your Holy Spirit, that He may work through my thinking and listening. In Jesus name, Amen.

Current COVID Situation in QLD

The local situation in QLD remains stable with no locally acquired COVID cases to Wednesday of this week. However more community acquired cases have occurred in Victoria. Of particular concern is that these cases are the more contagious Indian variant of COVID. This represents an elevated risk to QLD of COVID being spread in the community by someone crossing the QLD border from Victoria. This has actually happened between Victoria and NSW. While the risk is still remote it is appropriate to increase our diligence in following the basic COVID safe hygiene practices, namely:
  • Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and infect you.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately into a closed bin and wash your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces frequently, especially those which are regularly touched, such as door handles, faucets and phone screens.

Also, we will be checking if any visitors have come from a COVID hotspot.

COVID Contact Registration

Your COVID advisers have been concerned with the tendency for people to bunch up as they enter the church and register on Safe Visit. Last week we trialled registering outside. Multiple Safe Visit QR codes were posted adjunct to the walkway to the Auditorium entry. For those that have been able to register on their phones, we have started asking arrivees to keep the registration tick on their phone and show it to the Welcomer on the door.

A further tweak of this system will be implemented on the coming Sunday. The area from the Auditorium entry to the centre isle will be roped off before the service to be used for COVID contact recording. Two Safe Visit QR codes will be posted on the wall of the auditorium and one adjacent to the rope barrier. This will allow people to spread out while they register at more sights. As last week, please show the Welcomer, who will be positioned at the centre aisle, the Safe Visit green tick. The rope barrier will help people remember to not inadvertently short cut to the seating.

For those who cannot register using a mobile phone, as last week, there will be someone there to manually enter your details on Safe Visit. Alternatively, the Welcomer will have a list of all regular attendees and will enter your arrival times for later manual entry on Safe Visit.

Why have we changed? Seeing a mobile screen is easier inside than outside. Also it means that our check in process will be the same in wet and dry days.

Thank you for your cooperation as we become familiar with these newer and safer contact registration processes.

Regards and blessings
