Living Faith enews: 7 August 2020
Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Friends

"Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed." Mark 1:35 NKJV

Over the last weeks people may have felt that lock-down has eked into their ability to keep a normal routine. Varying responsibilities have began to take precedence over areas which previously were priorities. These readjustments are normal as society tries to find its feet in the eye of the pandemic. We should however be cautious to not shift away from the things of God as we attempt to juggle a different lifestyle.

The majestic sunrise above spread itself over the Sea of Galilee early one morning in 2019. Those present had risen at dawn to head towards the shoreline to enjoy its splendour. Jesus would have enjoyed the fruit of His discipline as creation displayed His glory each morning when He spent time with His Father. This habitual solitariness infused Him with supernatural direction and power to tackle the issues that He faced daily. We also take joy as His followers in intentionally seeking His guidance, comfort and peace each day.

In the greatest prayer Jesus ever taught us, He said these words, "...give us this day our daily bread..." because we are to come before God on a daily basis to have our spiritual and physical needs met. There are so many challenges all around us and we face these through the power of Jesus that we receive when we spend time daily in His glorious presence. We do not do this because we are trying to follow a rule. Rather, we give time to God to allow His calming breath to fill our lives, so that we are empowered to live out His calling.

Our scheduled Church Picnic in the Park for Sunday 9 August has unfortunately had to be cancelled at this time due to the ongoing Covid19 pandemic risks. We have enjoyed catching up with many of you in our online Coffee Lounge and want to invite you to continue engaging with each other in this way. Please see further opportunities below to connect with myself or others in our congregation online. I am able to set up meetings for you to connect with each other without me having to be present, so let me know if I can support you in that way.

Just as I sign off, will you take a moment with me now to pause and pray for Victoria, NSW and Queensland as our governments and citizens work to contain Covid19, and specifically for those in ICU battling this disease. We pray for God's strength, comfort and wisdom for all those involved in leading through this crisis.

Have a blessed week!

International evangelist, Angus Buchan, from the movie "Faith Like Potatoes", led an online “Mighty Men Conference” for Australia last weekend. Although his message was specifically for men, he warmly welcomed women and children to listen in. His recollections of the time he spent in Australia were heartwarming and spiritually empowering. The service started with the inspiring testimonies of ordinary Australians whose lives have been transformed by Jesus. This week we are delighted to relive Peter and Daphne L's trip to Antarctica with them. The photos above show them swimming in freezing water - what a courageous pair! Despite the harsh weather conditions, it is wonderful to see the photograph of the whale, one of various animals who inhabit the continent. I once met a doctor who worked in Antarctica on contract for months at a time. Apparently the cold temperatures make it impossible for viruses to survive there. Anyone keen to go down south to avoid Coronavirus??
Please feel free to join in on our "Trip Down Memory Lane" segment by emailing me a photo/s of any place you may have visited.
