Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Friends
"Immediately He called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went away to follow Him." Mark 1:20 NASB
The boat depicted above was discovered in the Sea of Galilee and dates back to the first century. It reflects the type of boat that the disciples would have sailed as fishermen. It is interesting to note that when Jesus called them out of their former fishing careers, they immediately left their source of income and identity, and followed Jesus.
When Jesus calls us to a task, it will almost always involve us having to let go of something first. He may require us to let go of a judgemental attitude, pride, stubbornness, a controlling mindset, a wrong relationship or an emotional idol. For some, like the fishermen, it will involve letting go of a previous career. God takes us seriously when we say, "Lord I give you my whole heart and life." What earthly boat of life have we been trusting in to keep us bouyant while Jesus may be calling us out upon the water? What may He be telling us to abandon in order to fully follow His call?
This challenge applies to church life as well. God is calling the global church to sail in new and uncharted directions with the Gospel message. Living Faith Uniting Church forms part of His universal plan to shed His love abroad in the hearts of people. The desire to serve God does not come from ourselves. Jesus plants that desire within us, hence He has the answer to the question of our calling and purpose. Let us pray for God to show us how we fit into His plan, starting with a prayer of repentance so that are hearts are pure to receive His mighty Word for us.
We are working hard towards restarting services on the 6 September. We will however confirm this tentative date next week across our various communication platforms. There is a tremendous amount of background work taking place to restart services and we thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive towards compliance in an continually changing environment. Please pray for those who are putting in every effort for us to all have the joy and benefit of meeting together again. I need to note a necessary and important change to our services going forward - they will start at 9am.
May God inspire and comfort you this week!

I have a stray cat I call “Kitty”
With her chocolate features she is very pretty
She is a little lanky
And she also can get very cranky
She bit me on my hand vein
I hope she doesn’t do that again
I don’t think she’s ever had any love
So I think God sent her to me from above
She gets the best food I can afford
For this I thank the almighty Lord
She never meows but often purrs
I think she thinks I must be really hers.

TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE
Doug and Janice take us along on their trip to Adelaide this week with a stopover in Broken Hill. Broken Hill was Australia's first heritage listed city and is nestled in an outback desert-type environment. It boasts the history of the mining era in bygone times. The above photos were taken from the Broken Hill lookout point which features a memorial to mine workers who have lost their lives. The whole structure can be seen above with a more detailed list of names on the lower photo. It is a delight to enjoy snapshots of remote places that entice us to want to visit to soak up the past. Thank you for sharing this part of your journey with us.
Do you have photos of a memorable place you have visited? We'd love to share in the experience. Email the details to firstname.lastname@example.org
