Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Friends
"When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove..." Luke 3:21-22b NIV
The setting above hosts a baptism site along the Jordan River in Israel. It is a deeply symbolic place as it holds the waters that Jesus descended into for His own baptism. The glorious sign of God's approval of Jesus' baptism came in the form of a humble but beautiful dove.
The day our tour group visited this site, many took the opportunity to reconfirm their baptism vows. As folk waded in the water pool alongside the river, a dove spontaneously swooped right down and flew over the group. It was an incredible moment to behold. This did not happen because there was something special about the group - it was simply God's symbol of peace which is available to all of us when we choose to commit or recommit ourselves to Him completely.
It is so important to gauge from time to time where we are at in relation to our commitment to Jesus. Is He still front and centre stage or has something else crept in that is taking up His throne in our lives? As our King, we need to keep Jesus central and let the rest of our lives revolve around Him rather than the other way around. If you have been feeling a little disconnected from God lately, and want to recommit your life priorities to Him, why not say this short prayer now:
"My King and My Lord, I want to experience your Holy Peace in my life again. I want you at the centre of my life because my hope comes from putting you first. I ask for you to fill my heart with your Holy Spirit once again, descend on my life as I fall to my knees before you now. You are mine, and I am yours. 'Baptise' me with your love, forgiveness and compassion. I ask in Jesus name, Amen."
Let us continue in that frame of heart and mind by putting Jesus first on the 31 October - 1 November during our church's Prayer Vigil. Real power and transformation in our lives begins with prayer. Sign up to spend one hour with Jesus through the Prayer Vigil link below in this newsletter. The way you spend the hour is between you and God but the benefits for ourselves and our church will be felt for a long time to come.
SYNOD - This year Synod will run from 23 October until 27 October inclusive and my availability will therefore be limited during these dates.
Just a reminder that the Minister's online Bible Study has started on Wednesday mornings at 9:30am. We spend the hour exploring what God is saying to us through the book of James. The link to join in is below in this newsletter. Come expectant that God will speak to you!
May your week be filled with a peace, hovering like a heavenly dove over you.
