Living Faith enews: 11 September 2020
Dear Living Faith Uniting Church Family and Friends
"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11

This pillar is one of the remaining structures of the ancient Masada fortress in Israel. A trip to this location involves ascending a steep mountain by cable car offering panoramic views of a vast desert and the Dead Sea. A cliffhanger experience of note! It is fascinating how some of the ancient ruins of Masada still stand tall today, centuries after they were built.

How can we ensure that the foundations of our lives are sturdy enough to withstand the emotional desert storms that we go through? We allow God to lay down the building blocks of our lives by interacting with Him daily through prayer and the study of His Word, the Bible. It is important to ask ourselves regularly if what we are believing the truth about our lives. Basing any aspect of our lives on a lie, can lead to shaky ground when the hard times come. How do we find out the truth about our lives? Jesus is the truth - what He says about us is true. Human opinions can be fickle - we need to construct our lives on what God says about us.

We were so excited to restart our services last Sunday in the church building. Things are set up differently to how they used to be, but this provides us with a safe haven to meet within guidelines that protect us all. Please feel free come along this coming Sunday and enjoy the presence of the Holy Spirit as we worship God together. We encourage you to bring your own face mask and to wear it during the service.  Aside from our Worship Service Team members, may we ask that you please arrive at 8:50am for a 9am start. We are excited to celebrate our new church members this Sunday.

There are a number of other important announcements below in this newsletter which I commend to you.

There are lots of changes all around but we take heart because the God whom we serve remains a constant helper!

Your friend,

Tel: 0432 067 227

We are delighted to inform you that we have restarted our face to face church services to worship our Lord and be in the company of our church family and visitors. As we prepare for these times together, we ask that you please read through the important guidelines below before arrival at the church.
We want to ask that everybody approaches our proposed Sunday services with a spirit of flexibility as we find our feet in doing things in a brand new way. We encourage you to “go with the flow” with the various new elements that are needing to be implemented at this time.
  • The movement of people on a Sunday morning will be confined to the auditorium, the disability toilet and the boardroom area. Please do not enter into any other area of the church premises so that potential cross-contamination is avoided and the burden on our church cleaners is alleviated.
  • We urge you to follow Government Health Directives when deciding on whether or not to attend in-person services. Each person is responsible for their own choice in balancing the risks involved in attending services.
  • Our Kidz Church program will restart on Sunday 4 October.
  • Our COVID Safe Worship Plan allows for a maximum of 50 people to attend a service. Please advise Rev Iris Marais via sms or email of your intention to attend so that we don’t have to turn anyone away at the door. Contact details:

Please Do
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • If you have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, please get tested
  • Stay 1.5 metres away from each other —think two big steps
  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or hand sanitizer before arrival
  • Sneeze or cough into your arm or a tissue. Then put the tissue into the bin and re-sanitise your hands.
Please do not
  • Go near people if you are coughing (excluding asthma coughs) or sneezing
  • Touch your mouth, nose and eyes
  • Shake hands
  • Hug or kiss people
  • We are required to record attendees and usher you to your seat. This will take a bit of extra time upon arrival. Once seated, please remain seated in your allocated chair and do not change seats. Unfortunately moving around the church and chatting with friends is not an option
  • Please practice physical distancing of 1.5 meters in the church and in the car park.
  • Please arrive at 8:50am for a 9am start.
  • Please note that the windows and doors in the auditorium will be left open for ventilation during the service and air conditioners will be left off. You are encouraged to wear warm clothing suitable for the day.
  • Communion will recommence on Sunday 4 October.
  • There will be no morning tea initially. Please disperse to your vehicles after worship. Having morning tea with family or friends at a nearby coffee shop or inviting a friend over are personal choices at this stage. We encourage you to follow the COVID safe directives.
  • Donations of cash may be made at the door.
  • You are encouraged to bring your own face-mask and wear it during church services.
It is a blessing to be able to meet together again to worship our Lord Jesus. The process will feel strange initially as we find our new rhythm over the coming weeks. We hope the new normal will become more familiar over time.
We ask you to please express your love for your fellow congregation members by following the above guidelines which will enable us to attend church with the lowest possible chance of picking up COVID-19. None of us can afford to contract this disease and our primary concern is for people’s safety.
We look forward to seeing you and hosting you at our services.
Your Covid Safety Team

We are looking to reschedule the online prayer meeting to a different time and will keep you updated.
Our SUPERSTARS Dance team wanted to send a huge "HELLO!" to the Living Faith Uniting Church family! They hope you are all doing well. They are full of enthusiasm and finding their dancing feet amid the pandemic. We should really think about a fun adult dancing class at LFUC and perhaps hiring these two to teach us - anyone up for the tango?

During the time of this terrible virus
The whole wide world is in a major crisis
Lots of people don't worry about good health
They just worry about possessions and wealth
So I pray every day
That this disease will go away
I feel like I've been left in the lurch
As I can't attend my special church
The government is trying to do its best
To eradicate this lethal pest
All we can do is pray daily with love
To our Almighty God up above
Let Iris know if you would like to give one or more of her business cards to folk in need of pastoral care and we'll arrange to get business cards to you.
Charlie and Leonie whisk us off to South America this week where they visited several countries. They began their adventure in Santiago, Chile and then visited the Galapagos Islands. They followed these exotic destinations with a must-do trip to Lima, Peru, which included the seeing the ruins of Machu Picchu and Cusco.  Their next stop took them to the Iguazu Falls and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. During their time in Rio de Janeiro, they boarded a cable car to see the statue of Christ the Redeemer up close. Talk about getting high up and nearer to heaven! Buenos Aires in Argentina came next before they sojourned further south to Patagonia. It was a wonderful trip with many highlights and memorable moments! Enjoy the experience with them as you take in the views from the photos above. Thank you for sharing the joy of this holiday with us.
