SOME VERY GOOD NEWS!

Think back to October 2019 - As part of the approval for the Facilities Master Plan for Parks Recreation and Forestry, The Mayor directed staff to assess trends and participation in curling after members of your West End Curling Committee attended the Executive Committee Meeting at City Hall.
Many of you called and/or emailed your councillors and the Parks & Rec people to voice your concern over the lack of curling in Toronto and this helped us considerably.

Their job was set up in two phases.- Phase 1 - to access supply and demand for curling ice and identify gaps and opportunities  Phase 2 - to review the existing city facilities for curling ice  & sport development opportunities and develop cost estimates and funding options.

Phase 1 is now complete.
View  it here https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/8e2a-curling-strategy-phase-1-findings-july-2020.pdf

Phase 2 is a work in progress and will be completed by the 4th quarter of 2020. It will then be presented to City Council

We are very pleased with Phase 1 findings.

They reported - 'There is no curling ice in Etobicoke York. The closest facilities are High Park Club and Dixie Curling Club (Mississauga), both of which are operating at or over capacity with little ability to serve this demand. Publicly accessible curling facilities across Toronto are operating at or near capacity'

WECC and our stakeholders are working with PFR (Parks, Forest, Recreation) and we will keep you informed as to the findings later on in the year.  We are not out of the woods yet but are working diligently and as a group, still meeting monthly. We are looking at all options including a funding model, and will keep you informed as to our progress.

Thanks once again for your support.   There is still time for you to write to your City Councillor amd ask for their support on the final vote.   After all, it will be these city leaders who will eventually approve plans for our new curling facility.

Just a short note to say we hope everyone is doing well during this pandemic and that you and those you love are safe!
