This August & Sept we'll be re-running our 6 week Love Like This Series on the cycle of relationships with tips to keep your interactions safe and healthy.

1. Sept 4/5 - casino volunteers needed for various positions. No exp. required but must be 18+.

2. Sept 12 - Autorama volunteers are needed to staff our tent & sell 50/50 tickets. (Times TBA).

3. Sept 18 - Outloud's St Albert Pride event: we need volunteers to help run games & activities in our tent.
Our 10 week group program for parents & their children starts Sept with intakes completed in August. If you would like to be booked in for an intake, please call us at 780-460-2195 ext 301. Learn more.

New Wellness Courses from AHS

Anyone looking to create healthier relationships and to improve their coping and communication skills can now register for AHS’ new Wellness Exchange, an online one hour series for Albertans. Sessions run weekly starting July 20 and again Sept. 8. Participants can take any or all of the classes. For more info visit the website or email ahswellnessexchange@ahs.ca.

Family Violence & Family Law Online Courses

These free courses, which have been accredited by law societies, provide information about family violence and family law and explain changes to the Divorce Act relating to family violence. While the courses were prepared with legal advisers in mind, it is available to anyone who is interested in learning more. Courses are available online here.
 

Calling All Youth Actors & Scriptwriters

We're creating a series of short videos on relationship situations that youth often navigate but don't always know the right thing to say or do. We're looking for volunteer actors & scriptwriters (ages 12-18) to help! Videos will form part of our school presentations & social media. To learn more, contact areni@stopabuse.ca.

Are You Open to Sharing Your Story?

We're looking anyone who may be open to being interviewed for a podcast series on abuse, survival, and healing to hopefully inspire others to reach out or feel hopeful about their own situations.  If you would be interested in sharing your story and want to discuss how we can do so safely, contact Areni at 780-460-2195 ext. 306 or areni@stopabuse.ca. Existing research doesn't capture the context, consequences & severity of intimate partner violence (IPV) against 2SLGBTQ+ persons in Canada.
The RESOLVE Alberta research project, Examining the Nature & Context of Intimate Partner Violence in the 2SLGBTQ Communityis looking to address service gaps by examining 2SLGBTQ+ experiences and you can help!

1) Complete the survey, if you…
  • Are 18+ & reside in Alberta
  • Identify as a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community
  • Have experienced some form of IPV within the last ten years (2011-2021) 
  • Are currently in a safe situation free from violence
2. Participate in an interview 
  • If you are a service provider with insight into IPV in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, please contact Jason Novick at jbnovick@ucalgary.ca.
