2020: A Year to Remember!

And we're just getting started.

For decades, movements and organizations lead by women and girls have been the source of activism and action to promote women’s rights and to address violence against them.

VOICE exists to promote their leadership and expertise doing so, particularly in settings of conflict, crisis, or disaster. We are an organization that partners with local women and girl-led organizations take back the critical spaces and conversations that have been lost or overtaken by larger agents, and that do not address the direct needs of the most vulnerable people in their communities, which are, of course, women and girls.

This is why we ask for your help. Through the support of your invaluable donations, VOICE is able to respond with new, feminist solutions that truly speak to the needs of women and girls. During the COVID-19 pandemic, in which we have seen the magnitude of impact on these groups, we are able to facilitate virtual learning sessions, consultations, and capacity-sharing workshops on a daily basis. We do this in 14 countries and counting, and in multiple languages. Over the last six months, VOICE has provided over 100 hours of direct technical support hours directly to women- and girl-led organizations, and over 15 different virtual joint learning sessions for over 125 frontline actors throughout the world.

With your support, the voices of women and girls are being heard across the humanitarian sector, and we are generating transformative change. In August and October, over 300 of you joined VOICE for webinars centering the experiences of women humanitarians, and addressing the massive issue of sexual exploitation and abuse in this industry. Our calls for change are growing #LOUDER, and our mission to amplify the voices of women and girls is being actualized.

We have so much to look forward to in 2021 as an organization. I invite you to become a VOICE donor to advocate for the needed change that a truly feminist humanitarian movement will bring. Join us today!

Being A Peacebuilder
Can Be Exhausting.

Cameroonian activist and peacebuilder Sally Mbouniem tells VOICE's Chiderah Monde about the funny (but predictable!) story behind a photo of her sitting on the steps outside the first Cameroonian national dialogue on peacebuilding during the Anglophone crisis. Sally and her organization, who were the only women peacebuilders requesting to be in attendance, were denied access. Needless to say, a "no" from men didn't stop her from finding a way to get inside!

Year-End Reflections:
What does it mean to be a VOICE Fellow?

As a VOICE fellow, I have been given the opportunity to learn from some of the most brilliant and inspiring feminist leaders working in the humanitarian field. As an unapologetically feminist organization driven by the values of women’s rights movements, VOICE recognizes the importance of putting women and girls at the center of humanitarian response.

At VOICE, I have had the opportunity to assist team members involved in our COVID-19 response strategy. I have engaged with various staff members during team meetings, and have formed strong connections with other VOICE Fellows. We have learned from one another’s work, and greatly benefitted from the uplifting community aspect of the organization. Following my role as a VOICE fellow, I know that I will hold onto these connections and friendships that I have made along the way.

Being a part of the community of feminist leaders at VOICE has given me the confidence to speak up and use the power of my voice. VOICE is unconventional on purpose and positively disruptive. The environment of the organization is energizing and supportive, and truly unlike any experience I have ever had. During these unprecedented times, I have sought comfort in my responsibilities and interactions as a VOICE Fellow. My gratitude for this experience and the women I have been surrounded by is immense. This experience has given me the confidence and knowledge to pursue a career in the humanitarian field in a more holistic and mindful way.
