National League of Cities (NLC) Initiative

Evanston was one of six cities selected for NLC’s “Cities of Opportunity” initiative. Read the Daily Northwestern’s take here.

EDC and the City of Evanston were invited to attend a summit in Washington D.C. to examine how backyard homes can affect public health through "healthy housing" for residents of all incomes, races, and identities.

Equitable Land Use Policy

By only allowing land to be used for certain types of housing, zoning can unnecessarily constrain the supply of housing and perpetuate the racial wealth gap in our community.

EDC and the City of Evanston are collaborating to amend our zoning code to support more backyard homes. This will go before the Planning & Development Committee on Dec. 9th. Learn more in this Evanston Now article.

After our November Neighborhood Hours in the 7th Ward, we welcome Evanston residents to join us near the corner of Church and Dodge in December to talk backyard homes and local community engagement.

EDC Neighborhood Hours are held in local coffee shops and eateries around town, rotating through all 9 wards. Anyone is welcome to join us.
