New Backyard Home Ordinance

EDC collaborated with the City of Evanston over the past six months to pass an ordinance to expand backyard home options.

With hundreds of new opportunities for backyard homes, this policy works towards housing affordability and a better use of our residents’ land. Read more from Evanston Now in this article.

As the number of aging Americans seeking affordable, accessible housing continues to grow, EDC is co-sponsoring an event with WiseUp, the Evanston Public Library (EPL), and the League of Women Voters of Evanston to explore how our local communities can address this time-sensitive issue.

Join us at EPL to discuss policies that work towards accessible backyard homes (“accessory dwelling units; ADUs”) in Evanston and across the Chicago region, learning how to take local action in support of age-friendly housing.
