August '20: Prayer and God our Hope
By Danita Wong

We are taking a break from a full prayer blog article this month, but we’re not taking a break from prayer!  As you pray by yourself and with others this month, I invite you to ask the LORD to show you how He is our hope.

Consider incorporating some of these verses into your prayers this month:
  • “Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.” (Ps. 25:5, NIV)
  • “Be strong and let your heart take courage, All you who hope in the Lord.”, (Ps. 31:24, NASB)
  • “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise Him again - my Savior and my God!” (Ps. 42:5-6a, NLT)
  • “By awesome deeds you answer us with righteousness, O God of our salvation, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas;” (Ps. 65:5, ESV)
  • “My God, rescue me from the power of the wicked, from the clutches of cruel oppressors. O Lord, You alone are my hope. I've trusted You, O Lord, from childhood. Yes, You have been with me from birth; from my mother's womb You have cared for me. No wonder I am always praising you!” (Ps. 71:4-6, NLT)
  • “Lord, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will be put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water. Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.” (Jer. 17:12-14, NIV)
  • “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Rom. 15:13, NASB)
Here are a couple of worship songs you can incorporate into your times of prayer and reflection:
  • My Hope is Built on Nothing Less (words: Edward Mote, music: William B. Bradbury):
  • Living Hope (by Phil Wickham):
May you experience the presence of the God of hope this month.
