I hope you’ll have time for the Canal Friends’ meeting on Monday 22nd, at 11am, by Zoom. The link and meeting ID have already been sent.
We are looking for a new chair.
It has been an amazing time for me since the Friends were launched five years ago, watching the progress of our contribution to the future of the canal and basin. From where we are now, we can see where we are heading.
This is a good time for a successor to take over. The Committee has streamlined the outline of the job. It also wants to support the new chair by having a vice chair to share work and to make the role less time consuming.
Here is what being chair involves:
Represent the Friends in meetings with local authorities and other bodies
Find suitable candidates to fill vacancies on the committee
Initiate activities and campaigns
Chair committee and members’ meetings
Review agendas and minutes
And of course you will be among Friends. There is enormous willingness and commitment among fellow members and all the committee to see the waterway and its Friends thrive. Their input makes all the difference to success.
A full briefing will be given to answer any questions a prospective chair has before a commitment is made. And if you would like more information in the meantime, please email or 'phone me.
Coincidentally, Monday 22nd will be five years to the day since the Friends held their inaugural meeting.
It has been good so far. Now for the future!
Please come to the meeting if you can, even if you don’t want to put your name forward, because all input is important.
And please continue to take care and keep yourself and others safe. I hope we will all be able to get together in person at a canal event soon.
Boards with our message
Information boards about the Friends (see picture) are waiting until restrictions are lifted and we can move outside again.
They present our aims clearly and attractively. We hope to have them on display at important venues such as the Custom House and other places where visitors to the waterside gather.
We will also use them at exhibitions when the Friends have a stall or the canal is featured.
The boards were designed by Peter Nickol from the committee.
We are always keen to welcome new members who are supporters of the canal. If you know anyone who may be interested please feel free to forward this newsletter to them.
Individual – £8 a year
