The Housing Market: Investors and nest eggs vs housing security

House price increases are outpacing wage growth, more people are in rental and housing stress, rates of homelessness are increasing and there is less social housing today per population than there was 20 years ago. What gives?

REDWatch will be joined by Professor Nicole Gurran and Ben Spies-Butcher to discuss the important issue of housing financialization - when housing is traded as a commodity and treated as a vehicle for wealth and investment rather than a social good.

When: Thursday June 2, 6pm
Where: The Factory Community Centre, 67 Raglan Street Waterloo.

Ausgrid Waterloo to Surry Hills Cable Project

As you may be aware, Ausgrid is planning to lay a new underground electricity cable and spare conduits (plastic pipes) between our substation in Allen St, Waterloo to Ann St, Surry Hills. This cable is over 40 years old and needs to be replaced to maintain a safe and reliable network.

The work is unrelated to the Waterloo redevelopment.

Ground investigations will take place in Pitt St, Waterloo
The investigation work will involve drilling small holes about 250mm in diameter in the roadway to determine the underlying ground conditions. As part of this work, you may also see our work crews marking out utility services on the road.

Work is expected to start on Wednesday, 18 May 2022 and take about 3 weeks to complete, weather and ground conditions permitting. Once this work is complete, we will restore the impacted areas of the road.

For day works, Our work will be carried out during the day from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 1pm on Saturdays. No work will be undertaken on Sundays.
