Funeral Service for Joan Garofalo
Saturday, September 19, 11AM on the church grounds.

Indoor Worship begins October 4
Kim sent out a questionnaire through Survey Monkey on Tuesday, September 15th. Please respond, so we'll know whether or not you will be joining us in person for the first indoor worship service.  The Deacons are meeting on Sunday to plan for indoor worship. We would like to have a good idea of how many are planning to attend.
If you already responded, thank you!

The live streaming project is on the back burner for now. If you can't worship in person, please look for the videotape of the service on our YouTube Channel on Sunday afternoons.

Welcome Christine Foley, our New Administrative Assistant
Christine Foley is beginning work as the church's new Administrative Assistant on Tuesday, September 22. Chris resides in Portland and took early retirement from a successful 25 year career in marketing communications. We are blessed to have someone with Chris's experience and skills excited to begin working at our church. Chris will work alongside Kim Kennedy for her first 3 days on the job. Kim's last day as church secretary will be Wednesday, September 30, but you will continue to see Kim serving God as the Chair of Christian Education, a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Missions Committee, and a devoted member of Third Church. Please assist in this transition by thanking Kim for her years of faithful service, welcoming Chris to her new position, and working with Chris on the administrative functions you are accustomed to Kim handling. Chris and I will be in the church on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am - 3 pm. -- Pastor Nancy

Middlesex Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) purchased 171 Hubbard Street, a house in desperate need of renovation, from the town of Middlefield, in June of 2020. Renovations are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2020.  We are asking to schedule a date for volunteers on this home. Curtis Weybright, Middlesex Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) Construction Manager, will lead the renovation of the three-bedroom house. MHFH is committed to transforming the house by lowering utilities and maintenance costs, while increasing the efficiency and durability of the home. The house will be renovated to meet ENERGY STAR standards by using energy-efficient features, such as effective insulation, efficient heating equipment, and ENERGY STAR qualified lighting and appliances.  The Middlefield House Renovation will be our second Veteran Build. A homeowner search will begin in September of 2020.

Did you know Katherine Lee Bates...
Katherine Lee Bates is best known as the author of “America the Beautiful” but she did much more than that. Her mother, Cornelia Frances Lee raised her and her family. Her father Rev. William Bates died soon after she was born. Despite a difficult start Katherine got a college education at Wellesley and, with some prize money, went on to study further at Oxford University in England. She came back to Wellesley to teach but did not stop there. She pioneered courses in American Literature, wrote a text to support the courses and established American Literature as a discipline. Katherine was known as a mentor and encourager of young women. She authored books of poetry, travel, essays, children’s and young people's literature. She popularized the figure of Mrs. Santa Claus.Near the end of WW I she became a war correspondent for the New York Times. She wrote for The Congregationalist and Christian Century. It was on a trip to Colorado and climbing Pikes Peak that she was inspired to write “America the Beautiful”.
