Diggr Spotlight: Leopold

RPM Feature

Leopold is a collector, DJ and radio host from North London, with a true passion for music of all shapes and forms. Having been exposed to a lot of soul and jazz at a young age, this influence has been ever-present since he first put a needle to a record in 2012.

Developing a love for the underground side of House, Disco and Funk during his university years in Leeds, it spurred the start of a vinyl obsession. Heavily influenced by the Detroit sound and aesthetic, Leopold fused this with his funk sensibilities and began honing a unique style on the decks, full of energy, emotion and groove.

A short stint working at east London’s now renowned NTS radio led him to later host his own show, 'The Natural Element, now a monthly session on Soho Radio which regularly hosts an array of prestigious guests from the underground. The show is a feel good journey into his expansive taste, blurring genre boundaries and merging the old with the new.

Since 2019 his held down a residency at London's Spiritland whilst being an integral part of cosmic collective Discofunk. He also co-runs runs his own event series Constellations, which has invited down the likes of Kay Suzuki, Will Lister and Al Dobson Jr. over the past couple of years.

Needs: The future of sustainable vinyl

London based label Needs Not For Profit has partnered with Dutch pressing plant Green Vinyl for their 9th release coming out this month and features tracks from Saoirse, Reptant, Sansibar, Pugilist, LUXE and Hassan Abou Alam
With 4.3m vinyl sales in the UK last year (the 12th consecutive year of growth), it’s clear that vinyl is back in a BIG way. But the basic technological principles of record pressing have not changed for a century and it now poses a more urgent environmental concern than it did in the format’s heyday.

GVR are a brand new pressing plant who have patented a revolutionary production method which uses injection moulding rather than steam energy, using 60% less energy than traditional vinyl production. It also uses no PVC (meaning it cannot warp), has a wider frequency spectrum & longer lifespan, and is a 100% recyclable product, meaning you can dispose of it in your home recycling bin.

Out on 24th September
