Welcome to September! that was a great summer!! Well, only because I had the opportunity to spend well deserved time with my family and this included a wonderful visit from my  granddaughter....all I can say is I have stored all these precious moments in my heart! Time sure makes you realize how precious it really is.

Speaking of time, put your seat belt on because September is here and this means we need to change gears again. Not only will the leaves start to fall, but we get ready for kids to go back to school instead of being home-schooled.

This hopefully frees up time for the family member who was helping with homeschooling to get back to their routine. I am sure getting back to the gym, squeezing a pamper day in, decorating the home for Autumn (because Dollarama already has Halloween props on display) are all on the 'to-do list'. And I'm sure you are already organizing the upcoming family holidays like Thanksgiving or Christmas, or maybe planning a winter vacation. Holy guacamole, can we go any faster? Before you know it, we will be saying, 'Happy 2022'.

But hold on, let's put on the brakes a bit!! I didn't say we needed to go from zero to 100km in 3.5 seconds LOL! We all know what to expect at this time of year, I say, take it in stride and enjoy the ride.

Happy Harvest season!!

The Ontario Real Estate Association is pleased to see housing affordability is a forefront election issue, with all three major federal parties putting ideas on the table to increase housing supply and bring the Canadian Dream of home ownership closer to reach.

However, one aspect of the Liberal Party of Canada’s housing plan would criminalize the ability for hardworking Canadians to choose how to sell their homes, by regulating real estate practices through the criminal code. read more here...

Downsizing vs. Right-sizing
Although 'Downsizing' and 'Right-Sizing' sound like they might be similar, the difference is downsizing is more about shrinking your floorplan along with your belongings while right-sizing is about finding the right amount of space for your lifestyle and needs.

While downsizing is often accompanied by the idea of getting rid of things, rightsizing simply means shifting your surroundings to suit your needs and facilitate a happier lifestyle. While both downsizing and rightsizing involve a shift in living spaces, rightsizing is focused on the benefits of an adjusted perspective, rather than on getting rid of things. This mindset opens up more possibilities and will increase your quality of life.

Downsizing – Making a dramatic change in lifestyle, possibly from a large home to a small one or two bedroom condo, town home, or even assisted living. This may require a reduction in belongings and a financial plan. Time to map out the transition is preferred, but not always necessary.

Right-Sizing – Moving to a property that is the right size for your lifestyle. As children leave the home, people get closer to retirement, and priorities change, that large home that used to be important may become a burden. Right-sizing means evaluating what you really need in a home and making an adjustment.

Before you decide, ask yourself:

  • What is your motivation?
  • What stage of life are you in?
  • What's your lifestyle like?
  • How many bedrooms do you really need?
  • Where do you want to live?

Answering these questions will free you of any outdated responsibilities that no longer serve you. This could mean mowing a large lawn that is no longer enjoyed by children or yourself. Maybe maintaining a home during freezing winters isn't your thing anymore because you would rather enjoy the sun six months out of the year.

Remember, that during the rightsizing process, you are free to design your daily life and new home based on the most current version of you.
This is your chance to build your surroundings around your current needs and desires.

If this sounds like something you would like to explore, I would love to continue this conversation with you, so please, reach out!!

Here's an interesting article about a couple who found the right size home.

  • 1 bunch scallions, thinly sliced
  • 3 cups fresh corn kernels (from about 4 ears of corn)
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
  • ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red-pepper flakes
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 large eggs, whisked
  • ¼ cup half-and-half
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ⅓ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 3 tomatoes, thickly sliced
  • 4 peaches, thickly sliced
  • 12 ounces fresh mozzarella, thickly sliced
  • ½ cup basil leaves, roughly torn
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, as needed
  • Flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

1. In a large bowl, toss the scallions, corn, parsley, basil, salt, pepper and red-pepper flakes. Add the flour and baking powder, and toss until the mixture is well combined.

2. Add the eggs and half-and-half and then mix with a spatula until a thick batter forms. Fold in the mozzarella and Parmesan.

3. In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the vegetable oil. While it heats, line a baking sheet with paper towels.

4. When the oil is hot, scoop ¼-cup portions of batter into the skillet. You’ll need to work in batches, cooking just a few at a time. Cook until golden brown, about 3 minutes, then flip and cook until golden on the other side, about 2 to 3 minutes more.

5. When the fritters are cooked, transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Continue until you’ve used all the batter.

6. To assemble, arrange the corn fritters, tomatoes, peaches and mozzarella slices on a large platter. Sprinkle basil evenly over the top. Garnish with a generous drizzle of olive oil, flaky salt and freshly ground black pepper.
