Friends Newsletter Number 62 - February 2020

Dear <<First Name>>

Recent Events & Activities

Audio Visual Evening by the Staplehurst Photographic Society - 19th October: This was a brilliant evening thoroughly enjoyed by everyone there. Photos and animations set to music, a mixture of serious and amusing. We received a cheque for £284 from the Society so a great result all-round.

Parish Council 125th Anniversary Celebrations – 26th October: We had a stall at this event and a very worthwhile exercise with plenty of visitors and at least one new member and one donation as a result. A thank you to Chris Mahoney for joining me on the stand.

Shepherd’s Market 7th December 2019:  Another very successful event raising around £1500. The kitchen, as ever, kept the whole thing going. We welcomed Mayor, Cllr. Marion Ring, who kindly came along to open the event and who took time to speak to all the helpers and stallholders and also had a chat with Father Christmas. This was very much appreciated. We thank Father Christmas too, and his elf, for taking time out from their busy schedules to visit us.

Forthcoming Events

Brain Game – The 2020 Brain Game will be on Saturday the 21st of March. 7:30pm for an 8:00pm start in The Parish Room. A popular event limited to 12 tables, book early to avoid disappointment.

AGM - Our AGM is at 8:00pm on Wednesday 13th of May in All Saints Church. Please join us from 7:30pm for refreshments beforehand. We will report on our activities and finances over the last financial year. We will have at least one vacancy on the committee this year, so if you feel you can bring something to the committee please let me know.

Walk & Lunch – We are planning a Walk & Lunch on Bank Holiday Monday the 25th of May. The walk around the Sissinghurst Castle Estate will be starting at 10:30am. This is an easy walk of around 2 miles. Lunch will be at the Knoxbridge Inn at 12:30. Please come and join us for the Walk, the Lunch or both. If you wish to have lunch (walking or not), please contact Maureen Brice on 01580 891842 to book a place so we can confirm a booking. There is no fee to take part but a donation to “Friends of All Saints’ Church” would be very much appreciated.

AV Evening with the Staplehurst Photographic Society – Another Audio-Visual event is being organised by the Staplehurst Photographic Society. This is booked for Saturday the 24th October in The Parish Room.
We are looking at a possible event at the London Beach Hotel and a couple of other ideas are being investigated. We will keep you informed via the next newsletter, the Church Website and Church notices.

We are always happy to receive ideas for events, so please do get in touch with me or anyone on the committee.

Project Funding.

We are supporting the PCC as and when required with reimbursement for maintenance claims, the most recent agreed at our committee meeting in January 2020 for £5612.73 which has been paid.
Our focus has been in support of the Chancel Floor Project and although progress on this project has been slow, we hope this will change in the coming months. We have pledged financial support of the professional fees to enable this project to get started in earnest.

We have also pledged to support the repointing of the East Wall and support upcoming maintenance for the bells with new rope pulleys.

We have purchased some new pens, these in a nice shade of blue, a soft feel pen with a rubber top for use on a tablet or smartphone. We are selling these at £1.50, please contact me if you are interested in purchasing one.
The Committee

I would like to thank the committee for all for their hard work. The committee comprises me as Chairman & Membership Secretary, Mary Shaw as Treasurer, Tony Norfolk as Secretary and members, Maureen Brice, Sue Elwell, Ann Fulcher, Janet Pink, Alaine Summers, Frank Page and PCC Liaison Tony Henley.

Membership currently stands at 98. If you know of any friend, relative or new neighbour who might wish to join the Friends in looking after this wonderful building, then please put them in touch with me for more information and/or a membership form.
Membership forms willbe available at the AGM and as normal in the church porch.

The membership form can also be downloaded from the church website at
Lastly and most importantly, I would like to thank you our members. Without your financial support through membership subscriptions and attendance at events we would not be able to support the PCC with the on-going maintenance of our church which is a village community building.

Please remember to Gift Aid your donations if you can and if your circumstances change and you are no longer eligible to claim back tax then please let our Treasurer, Mary Shaw know as we will have to update our records and inform Canterbury Diocese.

Thank you again for your continuing support and I hope to see you at the AGM where you can find out more about our work.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Brady
Chairman & Membership Secretary.
