Thematic Network Moves ahead with Saving Lives Across the EU!
May 27 brought 136 of us together for our first Thematic Network Live Webinar on the European Health Policy Platform. We all gathered to help save an additional 90,000 citizens' lives from colorectal cancer every year

Many thanks goes to all who took part. A special note of gratitude goes to Giulio Gallo, DG SANTE, European Commission, for his excellent introduction and his recognition of the importance of screening in the EU’s Beat Cancer Plan, and to Dr Tit Albreht, MD, PhD who shared further in-depth insights into Slovenian CRC screening best practice. What do We Want?

To have more than 65% of all EU citizens between 50 and 74 years screened annually for colorectal cancer.

Some countries and regions in Europe achieve this objective, resulting in them saving many of their citizens' lives.

One such country is Slovenia, about their best practice example:

CRC screening was Introduced in Slovenia in 2009 using a central laboratory for all samples, initial ages 50 to 69 years, in 2018 extended to 74 years
It is the largest screening programme in Slovenia: annually one-sixth of the population gets invited
FIT test introduced by priority
Slow pickup at the beginning, but reaching 64% in 2019
Decrease of colorectal cancers incidence as a result of the screening

In the Joint Statement we want to answer the question of 'What has to be done to reach the same level in every country?'.
