The Open Rivers Programme is a grant-giving organisation supporting projects that lead to the removal of small barriers and the restoration of river flow and biodiversity. The programme officially began operating in October 2021 thanks to a €42.5 million grant over six years from Arcadia, a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin.

Applications for the 2022 European Riverprize are now open.

European Riverprize 2022
First awarded in 2013, the European Riverprize celebrates excellence in the management, conservation and development of Europe's rivers, wetlands and surrounding communities. From 2021, the emphasis of the International RiverFoundation shifted to building community and river resilience rather than just recovery. The International RiverFoundation is encouraging applications that reflect a journey towards the resilience of the rivers.

The winner will be announced at the Gala Dinner in Vienna's City Hall, on 29th November featured by the International River Riversymposium 28 - 30 November in Vienna, Austria.

Stage 1 applications are due Friday 15th July 2022.
