Newcastles of the World
You may remember that the Elders Council gave an online presentation to Shinshiro, Japan in 2021.
Our Newcastles of the World friends arranged another session recently where we heard more about the work of the Shinshiro Federation of Senior Citizens Clubs. We were joined by senior representatives from Australia and Germany this time, and it was really interesting to hear that there are similar issues over volunteering, membership and recruitment.

Exploring and Communicating Perceptions of IoT devices among the community
Call for participants:
Northumbria University are aiming to uncover the knowledge and opinions of older adults in regards to smart devices through an informal recorded interview, which will capture your use and understanding of these devices.
These interviews will be held with a CyberGuardian, who has been highly trained by a team at Northumbria University, and will begin with you confirming your verbal consent.
During this, the CyberGuardian will ask you a series of questions about your knowledge of and understanding of smart devices.
This will not be a test of your knowledge, but instead gives us a better understanding of adults opinions and usage of these devices.
This will be an excellent opportunity to communicate your questions/concerns with a trained CyberGuardian and to gain an understanding of how smart devices can benefit you at home.
If you’re interested in learning more about this, please get in touch with Rhian Lukins at r.lukins@northumbria.ac.uk, where you will be able to arrange an informal interview at a time and location of your convenience.
