Housing, Health and Care

Members of the Elders Council who are actively working on issues related to Housing, Health and Social Care met to review our work and think about next steps.  We shared information about our Neighbourhoods work and updates on ‘Doorbells’ and ‘Managing the Home Care Circus’.  We also reviewed the significant number of groups on which Elders Council is represented locally, regionally and nationally and considered how we might continue to do this efficiently and effectively.
If this area of work is of interest to you, please get in touch for more detail.

Our Board met online, on 23rd March, and included in our agenda on the day was a discussion around the Budget and Draft Funding Strategy for 2022-2023. As some of the budget will rely on successful funding applications, we will share the outcome of this once approval has been received.
We also have a new Procurement Procedure in place, forming part of the Financial rules of the organisation.
Barbara Douglas and Clare Levi provided an update on EC development plans, particularly our current involvement in Neighbourhoods work of the Walker, Byker and Fenham areas.
We agreed the date of the Annual General Meeting (see above) and how we share this valuable work with our members on the day.

Information

Old Banknotes and Coins

Did you know that there are billions of £ in old notes and coins still in circulation after they stopped being legal tender?
I wonder how many of us are keeping some for a rainy day in the hope they may be worth more?
Old £5 and £10 notes have already been withdrawn and £20 and £50 notes will not be able to be used after 30th September 2022. If you have any of these notes and wish to exchange them you can do so at the Bank of England for face value.
Start checking down the back of the chairs now, you could find a small fortune.

Magic Little Grants Fund 2022

LocalGiving has just launched this annual scheme for small grants. If you would like to apply then please look at the website which details all the projects this supports.
