Safe Skies continues to work to create a safe built environment for birds.

Through legislation, outreach and education, and building retrofits, Safe Skies is helping neo-tropical migratory and resident bird species.

Legislative Updates

The Maryland Sustainable Buildings Act of 2019 (Energy-Conserving and Bird-Safe Building Standards) narrowly missed the cutoff for crossover, so we are looking forward to a successful adoption of the amended bill during the 2020 legislative session.  In the interview above we discuss two new pieces of legislation being introduced this year including; closing the Carbofuran Loophole to protect Maryland's eagles and other wildlife, and a Balloon Release Ban.
Legislative Alert

New York City just passed legislation to protect birds from glass collisions.  Safe Skies Maryland is also introducing legislation in Maryland counties to help prevent building collisions.  Please join us and our friends at American Bird Conservancy in asking that our Maryland representatives in Congress co-sponsor H.R. 919, The Federal Bird Safe Buildings Act. This bipartisan bill has cosponsors from nearby Virginia, NJ, and NY. Where is Maryland?
