A Great Week For Democracy!

Between election denialism, voter suppression laws being passed in some states, and the threat to individual rights — not to mention democracy itself — we’d be lying if we said we weren’t anxious about the midterm elections. But this week, we couldn’t be more proud to be Pennsylvanians!

Party aside, voters showed up in impressive numbers across the state, and that’s what participating in democracy is all about. It was also encouraging to see voters in other states like Michigan, Vermont, and California stand up for a woman’s right to choose by backing ballot measures protecting abortion rights.

The cherry on top? We made history by electing Summer Lee to the U.S. House of Representatives — the first Black Congresswoman in Pennsylvania history!

At the end of the day, we can all breathe a deep sigh of relief knowing that the midterms turned out to be a free, fair, safe, and civil election. As our elections should be.

Thank you to all who volunteered at the polls or helped loved ones and neighbors register to vote or get to their polling place. No matter which party you support, it’s important that everyone exercises their right to vote to keep our democracy alive.

Until next week,
—Meredith

December Book Circle!

✨ Mon, December 5 | 7-8 pm | In The Salon ✨

December Book Circle //
This month, we’re burying our noses in Fools In Love: Fresh Twists on Romantic Tales, edited by Amanda Herring Blake and Rebecca Podos. The anthology of short stories reimagines some of the most popular romantic tropes in a new, modern light. A fun and easy read, the book is perfect for the hectic holiday season — sit down for a short 20-minute reading session, and you’ll have already finished one story!

Join us to talk about critical themes and plot points, listen to others’ thoughts, and share our own impressions and opinions. No worries if you don’t finish the book or haven’t been part of the Book Circle until now — you can jump in at any time. Register here!

The Salon is a place to dabble in the unknown. We provide an admittedly eclectic (but community-led!) range of programming. One week, it might be an academic discussing the gender pay gap. Next, it might be wine tasting and hipster puzzles. Indulge in new things with us! And if it makes you a bit nervous, that might be a good thing. Find out for yourself what we’re all about.
