Healthy Habits That Last A Lifetime

Toward the end of the year, we all tend to get a little lax with our healthy habits — we skip weekly workouts, indulge in a few extra sweets (it’s cookie swap season, after all!), and stay up a little too late binging holiday specials. But with the new year just two weeks away, we’ve been chatting at The Salon about what we’d like to prioritize in 2023.

Nutrition, movement, mental health, and sleep are all popular categories. It makes sense. In our quest to cultivate a better sense of overall well-being, we often go all in on one of these buckets. However, our mind and body aren’t separate entities — they’re interconnected systems that work together and rely on each other.

That’s why a holistic approach to wellness is so important. It allows you to heal through all categories — food, movement, and mindfulness — on your journey to better health. And the best part is, we don’t have to go about reaching our wellness goals alone.

During our 6-week holistic wellness series starting in January, Salon member, holistic health coach, and yoga teacher Becca Jones will teach us how to reconnect with ourselves and create healthy habits that are actually sustainable.

Change isn’t easy, but together, we can achieve our goals!

Wishing you a safe and joyous holiday,
— Meredith

Meet Becca Jones, Holistic Health Coach

“New Year, New You” sounds good in theory, but in practice, change is difficult. Certified yoga instructor and holistic health coach Becca Jones is an expert in developing lasting, attainable habits. In her 6-part Building Healthy Habits series, she’ll help Salon members and friends evaluate their nutrition, fitness, sleep, spirituality, and more to make integrated, customized plans that maximize personal well-being.

Here’s a little more about Becca and what you can expect from the series.

What is a holistic approach to wellness?

When we think of "wellness," it's easy to simply look narrowly at what you're eating or how many times a week you go to the gym.

To feel your best, though, it's important to take stock of all the choices you make throughout the day. Are you getting enough sleep? Drinking enough water? Taking time for meditation? All of these aspects of our day-to-day can affect what we choose to eat or our movement routine.

Rather than optimizing for one area — nutrition! mental health! — a holistic approach considers the mind, body, and spirit. Within this integrated framework, we identify small, sustainable behavioral changes that will make a noticeable difference over time.

How has a holistic approach to wellness changed your life?

I’ve always struggled with some sort of ailment. From anxiety to gut health, I had years where I forgot what it was like to move through my days feeling good. When I started to explore what healthy habits I enjoyed, I regained control of myself and my body. Approaching my health in a holistic way allows me to feel confident in the choices I make each day.

What do you hope participants will learn from the series?

My goal for the series is that by the end, each participant feels they have built habits they enjoy — that they have the tools to adapt and create new routines through each season.

I'd also like everyone to know they aren't alone, they've built a support system and they have the ability to feel their best every day!
