AI for Inclusive Urban Sidewalks
The Global Initiative on Inclusive ICTs (G3ict) and The Taskar Center for Accessible Technology (TCAT) of the University of Washington work with the interested parties and stakeholders from Los Angeles, Quito, Santiago, São Paulo, and Valparaíso, on the AI for Inclusive Urban Sidewalks project sponsored by Microsoft’s AI for Accessibility Program. The volunteers from participating cities already started working on the assessment of sidewalks accessibility using the OpenSidewalks Tasking Manager to capture and describe accessibility issues of sidewalks, crossings, curbs, etc. Learn more about the project and its partners in each of the cities.
Defining Inclusive Smart Cities
G3ict in close cooperation with Microsoft EMEA conducted a webinar on inclusive Smart Cities for Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism.
We discussed demographic realities and technology trends driving a global movement to incorporate accessibility and digital inclusion as core to how Smart Cities deploy technology assets; key performance indicators and metrics that support advancing ICT accessibility and digital inclusion in urban environments and across a broad range of functions that are important to all cities, like strategic planning, procurement, budgeting, technology deployment, developing partnerships, and using standards, etc.; five distinct levels of capability in and commitment to digital inclusion and accessibility across five specific dimensions that are important to all Smart Cities, e.g., Technology, Data, Culture, Strategic Intent, and Governance and Process, as well as application of inclusive smart city approach to tourism and culture industry.
In the framework of its Smart Cities for All initiative, G3ict holds the webinars on these topics for different audiences in different parts of the world to raise awareness on the digital divide that is getting worth in many cases with the deployment of smart city solutions and leaves behind persons with disabilities and older persons.
