With 57 Youth turning up on Sunday we couldn’t have asked for a better day to test run the new Age Managers and Committee 😊. Thank you Aran (and the IRB racing team) for putting on a show and allowing the Youth to have a go! And thank you Lisa also for running the Sunday Swim and Boards session. Fantastic to see a bunch of the parents also get into the water for the Swim!!
U14’s and new youth members received an equipment run through. What boards were to be used for Sunday Sessions, what to do in event of damage. Maintenance and Care! And then time was spent catching up on friendships, time in the water and IRB’s.
A huge thank you to ALL youth that took the time to complete the Youth Survey. So what happens with these forms now? Your feedback is being used to help up better understand your personal goals for the 2020/21 season, the pathways available to you as youth that you want to participate in and how we can help you have fun, develop and achieve these goals. There are some really good social activity suggestions and these will be shared with Marina and Jo to start pulling together social options. Stay tuned!
See you back at the flag 8.30am on Sunday. Please self-check-in on the clip boards and be ready to go by 8.45am (sunscreen, vest and cap). The weather is looking good, 13-15C in the morning and building to 23-25C, next to no swell, light NNE winds forecast in the morning, swinging to a strengthening SSW in the afternoon. A quick reminder, we need everyone to be wearing a vest and Sorrento Cap (Comp Cap). No exceptions. The uniform shop is open this Wednesday if you need gear!!
A couple of quick notes:
Club Equipment is only available if we respect it! Boards in particular are expensive to repair and replace. If you are using a club board you are responsible for taking care of it. And you should only be using them in the Youth arena or area we are running the session.
Sunday mornings when you come down to the flags, the Nippers Irons training will still be running. Please respect the flags that have been laid out by Bill and his coaches. Please give them space.
Patrols: For all youth that are patrolling, If you haven’t opted in to your patrol or received an email from you patrol captain, please reach out to them. The Patrol roster is out and we need you on these Patrols!
If you have any questions for the Sunday Session age manager team, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Jeff, Tim, Matt, Ben, Hal, Kevin & Darren
A note from the IRB Captain Aran
Thanks for the opportunity to take you out in the IRB on Sunday. I hope you enjoyed it. A special thanks to those of you that allowed me to practice my rescue techniques by voluntarily flying out of the boat at full-speed.
Should any of you wish to join the "Hollywood lifestyle" that is IRB, please drop Jess an email at firstname.lastname@example.org noting your interest in doing the crew course. If we get more than five people, we'll run a course in November. To do the crew course you need to have your bronze.
If any of you see me at the club in IRB gear, just ask and you can come out with me.
Fun fact: Arthur Fonzarelli invented the IRB.
Youth Development Surf Ski starting Saturday 7th November
Sorrento runs 6 week Surf ski Program for Youth (U15 and above at the moment) to support the Youth in developing the necessary competence and capability to handle a Surf Ski in the open Ocean.
The Program takes place at Hillarys Marina as these conditions are perfect for the Youth to learn in before hitting the open sea.
The program commences on Saturday 7th November and involved 6 sessions (if there are clashes with Carnivals, the ski session will not take place)
It is important that the Youth commit to the six sessions to develop the necessary skills. In addition we will need to support of the Youth and their parents to load and tow the ski trailer to Hillarys, as well as bringing it back and cleaning and putting away the Skis.
The program is limited to 12 places, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
All meet at Sorrento to load Ski Trailer 7.50am-8.20 am
On the water at the Hillary Marina 8.30 am-9.30am
Return to Sorrento to unpack the trailer 10.00am
Chris Milne will train the Youth and parents on the loading and unloading of the Ski trailer.
If you wish to participate, can you please confirm names and parent support to me (email@example.com) by no later than COB Sunday 25th October 2020
A Reminder of training sessions available for our nippers to improve their skills at Sorrento.

Each Nipper comes with an age caps, hi-vis vest (last season Caps and vest until we hand out this seasons gear), water bottle, and a Parent or Guardian present (water safety qualified parents, please be willing to assist if required)

It was excellent weather at Trigg on Saturday for the 2nd round of the SLSWA Ironman series.
In the Opens, Ash Booker, Kye Bostwick, and Ben Snook were consistent across all three races pushing themselves in the flat conditions with good results.
The U13/U14 crew of Harriet Chin, Sam Brigden, Holly Bertolini, Zara Buckley, and Kai Belmont showcased the talent we have coming up thru the ranks.
Harriet pushed the older girls all day, Sam showed huge signs of improvement and had a fantastic day, Holly and Zara were consistent across all 3 races, Kai toiled hard all day and was super consistent up against some big lads.
With the 3rd round of Iron man and the Endurance races at our beach on Saturday 31st October 2020, we would love to see more Sorrento in the water; please talk with your coaches and enter as many races as you can
