Our perfect run on Sunday weather came to a screeching halt on Sunday. We will blame Nippers for the rain.
To all the Youth that braved the conditions on the skis and the shorter youth session in the water and on the beach, well done. Thank you Lisa for running the club swim. There was a lot of people in the water with the youth combined with those doing their requals. The water was warmer than the air temp so most of the time after the swim was spent in the water on tube rescues.
Great job also to the youth that did their requals on Sunday. Just as a reminder, requals run through November on Sat / Sun mornings starting at 9.00am sharp.
Also nice to see the R&R teams sensibly training indoors early Sunday morning!
** Cancellation Notices ** Please note that the Age Managers and Youth Director are on the beach from 7am to assess surf/weather conditions. If the conditions are unsafe (lighting, dangerous surf and conditions) you will see a post canceling the Youth Session from the Youth Liaison (Amanda Buckley), Greg Belmont (Youth Director) or Jeff Baxter / Tim Begley (Youth Snr Age Managers). We will always aim to give you as much notice as possible as we know some members travel from afar. If you don’t see a Cancellation Notice from us, then Youth is ON. Please note that we will often be on the beach set up and won’t be checking our phones or FaceBook.
Congratulations to all the Youth that competed in the Irons and Endurance championships on Saturday. Fantastic to see the Sorrento colours doing so well!!
HUGE thank you also to the youth and parents that manned the BBQ during the Saturday competition. Great to kick start our Youth Fundraising. Our next BBQ opportunity is during the Nippers Carnival at Sorrento, 13 December. Stay tuned as we will need more helpers!! Thank you also to Anthony Chin / Darren Bender for organising all the bacon & egg supplies and getting the station set up and running.
Weather is shaping up to me much better next Sunday, so see you all on the beach!!!
The Youth Committee
Firstly I like to again apologize for having to make a late call in the cancellation of Nippers on Sunday morning and thank you all for your understanding. These decisions are always done considering the whole nippers cohort and standing in constant rain wouldn’t have been an ideal way to start the season off for everyone.
On Saturday morning we had some of our most committed athletes in U12 and U13 competed in the first surf event of the season in the Endurance Champs at our very own beach Sorrento.
An absolute super effort to all of our Nippers that had a crack. I’d like to acknowledge a couple of podium finishes to Jayden Buckley who finished 2nd in the U12 girls 2km run and Robbie Duffy who finished 1st in the U12 Iron man. Congratulations to you both! What a great way to kick off the season!
Saturday afternoon we had a team of nippers participate in the second pool rescue carnival of the year. Well done to all our nippers that had a go and thank you to Andrew, Carly and the rest of our team managers, parent timers and helpers. Great work!
Whilst pool rescue was being run on Saturday. A gorup of parents were getting busy cleaning out and making some alterations in the junior board cage. Hopefully I haven’t missed anyone but a huge thank you to Shane, Muzz, Chris, Ben, David x2, Jeff, Adam, Aaron , Jezza, Adrian and our president Ronnie. Your efforts will help us start the season off somewhat organized.
This Sunday fingers crossed our season will kick off with our little nippers (U8&U9) and Nippers (U10 & U13) starting. I look forward to seeing you at your age group flags on the grass in front of the club to kick 2020/21 season off.
Well done to all competitors that entered into the endurance events at Sorrento on the weekend. Both young and old, lots of medals for Sorrento super effort by all
Thanks to the usual suspects that helped with set up on Friday and also all the work on Saturday.
Thanks to the IRB team for their efforts with Water safety for the event.
Good luck to our boat crews that are racing this weekend at Coogee.
