Youth
All youth U14 to U19 from last season 2019 to 2020, and all new U14s and new enrolments for the 2020/2021 season, please save the date of Sunday October 11th (5 to 8pm) for our somewhat postponed youth end of season wind up.
I will email out all details later this week. So, note the date and that this is the windup we were going to have before COVID amended our timeline and involves YIP awards and prizes/trophies for various categories/paella/drinks etc and some sort of activity TBA.
We are inviting the new U14s and new enrolments for the coming season as it is a great opportunity to welcome them to the youth arena with the 2020/2021 season kicking off on the following Sunday, the 18th of October.

Junior News
Thank you to all the nippers and their families for coming along to the U11 Purple cap, U12 Dark Blue cap and U13 Red cap sundowner on the weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, it was great to catch up and acknowledge these groups and what a brilliant season they have had at Sorrento.
Thank you to Anthony, Darren, Chris, Dave, Sven and Jo with the BBQ set up, serving, and clean up. It was very much appreciated.
I'd also like to mention my special mighty Red Caps that have now completed their Nipper journey with Sorrento. Again, I'd like to thank this awesome bunch of kids and their families for the support, friendship, and encouragement they have provided me over the last eight seasons. I have loved every minute of it.
I look forward to seeing them take the next step in the club's youth program and training up to be patrolling members at Sorrento and competing for Mighty Sorrento.
This week we finish of 2019/20 season with the last of the Sundowners for the U6 Pink caps, U8 Yellow caps and the U10 Light Blue caps. Please come along and finish of the season off and enjoy the afternoon.
The Bar is open from 3 pm with the presentation starting at 4 pm nippers will get a hotdog after presentations, and parents are welcome to bring along their own nibbles or plates.
After this Sunday's sundowner, you will be able to collect all age group's uncollected certificates and medals from Jess in the office during office hours.

Sorrento's Jetski Course
We conducted Sunday’s session at Scarborough where the trainees had the benefit of some new and challenging conditions.
The focus of the session was to continue to practice rescue operations in the surf, this time in the more challenging conditions at Scarborough Beach. The main effort was to nail solo operator, conscious patient rescues in the surf zone. The trainees all handled the conditions well, demonstrating that they have been assimilating the skills of an RWC Operator learnt so far.
Well done guys!!
COVID 19
In addition to having a COVID Safety Plan and displaying a COVID Safety Plan Certificate, As a Sport and Recreation premises we must still:
• maintain a strict limit of a minimum of two square metres (2sqm) per patron
• maintain hygiene and frequent cleaning
• carefully manage shared spaces to ensure physical distancing
Below are some steps that our members need to make sure we do even though we are in stage 4.
1. Physical distancing
Physical distancing is one of the most effective methods of reducing the spread of viruses.
The more space between you and others the harder it is for the virus to spread.
Physical distancing can be used in the club to minimise the risk of transmission. If a
person in is found to be positive for COVID-19, the risk of transmission to others is minimized if physical distancing has been practiced.
Good practice physical distancing principles are to:
• maintain 1.5 metres separation between people who are not from the same household
or groups of other patrons; and
• maintain a minimum of 2 square metres (2sqm) per patron.
2. Hygiene
Cleaning hands
Regularly washing hands is an effective way to prevent the spread of germs and virus.
Washing equipment
There are no restrictions on the use of shared equipment.
The following hygiene measures are recommended to continue to manage the risk of
transmission:
• clean shared equipment between each use;
• continue to encourage patrons to bring their own equipment;
• implement hygiene measures following each classes;
• encourage patrons to wipe down equipment after each use; and
• gym supervisors should ensure regular cleaning is carried out during the day.
3. Training and Education
Our staff and coaches have all done the Australian Infection Control training courses.
4. Increased cleaning and sanitation regime
Our cleaner is cleaning more than usual for our members.
MEMBERSHIPS STILL OPEN!!
Please share with your family and friends so they can join our amazing club.

Updated Training Session
The club is consolidating the way we deliver and communicate our training sessions for all disciplines. The club swim/board/ski/iron met over the weekend and the coaches from all disciplines will meet next week. Over the next two weeks the club will have finalised a training plan which will be published.
How to find out when training is on?
1. The latest club training plan will available to view in this facebook group as a pinned file (similar to the file included within)
2. By talking direct to your coaches
3. The latest club training plan will be included in every weeks 'Between the Groynes' Club E-news at the bottom.
What if a training session changes or is cancelled?
Coaches who make a change to a Training session i.e. are cancelled or have a venue change (usually related to the weather) will advise athletes through the Sorrento Surf Sports Page (this facebook page) as the primary communication point. If the session also relates to Youth or Nippers it may also be posted there. This will include all disciplines. One club - One message point.
How do I know what session I can come to?
We have tried to advise as much info in the notes section of the calendar. If in doubt get in contact with your coach, the relevant captain etc. A list of contacts are on the training calendar. All session will aim where possible to cater for a wide range of athlete skills sets and age groups.
