Senior Surf Athletes

Well done to all the members and  North Coast Tri Club members that participated in the annual club Mile Swim, with 86 competitors and perfect conditions. It was a great turnout! Congratulations to all.

Thanks to all the volunteers both on the beach and in the water that helped, without you guys, these events can not go ahead so much appreciated!

Competition Director

Youth Program

Sunday saw 44 youth make it to the Session. Good to see that all youth were able to complete the little nippers white string line swim course. I’m sure that there were a few Nippers wondering what the big fish were doing over in their pond. Thanks Lisa. Great also to see the development crew out on the ski’s after the youth swim.

On the skills session we then tried something new with the string line and having a captain signal their swimmers onto designated swim cans. Thank you to everyone for putting up with being the first to run through this drill. Thank you also to the team captains or Bronzies that took on the leadership roles. The teams skill session then morphed into team board relays and team flag starts into the water.

Huge thank you to all Youth for getting all the boards back, washed down and in their original racks.

Coming Up:

At this stage Sunday Session 7th Feb is still on. Stay tuned to communications from Jess / Admin on any changes. These are posted on all of the Sorrento group FB pages.

Saturday 6th, Round 3 Surf League @ Trigg has been postponed.

Sunday Session 14th February is Youth Have-A-Go Day for Ski’s. At this stage the Sunday Youth Session will be held at the Hillary’s Marina (Northern End).

We will need Parent & Youth help in loading the ski trailer and getting this to the Marina. Any Youth / Parents that can help with the up-loading, transport (tow), un-loading please message me 0400320514 / FB messenger (Jeff Baxter) / e:jbaxter927@gmail.com. We will meet at the club at 7.30am for the loading. Check-In will be at the Marina at the Youth Flag 8.30am. Warm-Up then in the ski’s at 8.45am. There are ~ 10 x single ski’s going so we will need to rotate youth through. We will be running other activities for Youth (boards & beach) at the Marina. Session Finish is 10.30am. ** If you are already an experienced Youth paddler we would love to have you down there with us and also helping our coaches ensure the youth that are new to the ski’s get to experience the fun that can be had in a ski.

Youth & Seniors Carnival @ Mullaloo Beach, 21st February – Always a great carnival venue. Even if you are not competing but can help with the setup and want to see some great racing come down and hang out with the Youth Managers and your team mates. As soon as we have the program and registration details available we will get this out to you.

See you at the Youth Flag, Sorrento Beach on Sunday 17th Feb!

Thanks

The Youth Committee

Woodside Nippers

It was so good to have the whole team back together on Sunday morning and the conditions were perfect for everyone! It look like all groups took advantage staying in the water as much as possible.

Each week I get reminders on why Surf Club and Nippers is such a vital and important program for our community with so many of our parents being trained up as Bronze, SRC or NRC holders. Our nippers being educated in surf awareness, a healthy and active lifestyle and so much more. It really goes right through to our BBQ volunteers leading by example in community spirit.

I’d like to  thank  all our patrolling members that look after our Nippers when they get injured. The care and love showed to our members that I have witnessed over the last few weeks is what being part of the Sorrento community is all about!

Unfortunately not long after pack up on Sunday, our world has been put on pause so I can only encourage all our parents and members to lead by example follow the Covid guidelines so we can all get back to the beach together ASAP.

Obviously all our nippers training sessions are cancelled until restrictions are lifted we will do our best to inform members once we have been given the green light to get going again. Keep an eye out on emails, teamapp and facebook groups!

To all our members stay positive, stay safe and I look forward to seeing you all on the beach very soon!
