Successful Grant Applications

The club has been successful recently in our grant applications.

Firstly a big thank you to all our members who contributed to the grant applications.

Thank you to Ian Goodenough our Federal member for Moore whose support in our application to the Stronger Communities Grant, allowed us to be awarded $20,000 towards a new four wheel drive.

We where also successful in the City of Joondalup's Sport Development Program with nearly $8,000 towards new rescue boards and tubes.

BeachSAFE Appeal

The BeachSAFE appeal is on again this year and as a club we need your help. The BeachSAFE appeal is historically one of the biggest fund raiser for the club to help pay for the equipment we use for lifesaving, competition and nippers.

Please see Jess in admin to collect a shaker tin, take it to work or school (ensure you get permission first) or if you have the day off on 29/11/2019 let us know and we can organise a location for you either in the city, at the shops or at a train station.

Every little bit counts to keep our club running and growing.

“If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in bed with a mosquito.”– Betty Reese

The main Bronze and SRC requal sessions will again be held every Saturday and Sunday in November.  Saturdays will still be at 9am but due to the club being so busy on Sunday mornings SUNDAY REQUALS WILL NOW BE AT 7am. Meet at the top of the boat ramp.  Please refresh yourself on signals and the basics of the bronze so that the requal sessions can be quick skill checks rather than training sessions.  See for help with signals.
ADVANCED RESUS Requals this Saturday ay 9am and this Sunday at 7am.   Meet at the top of the boat ramp and state you want to do Advanced Resus not Bronze.

PAIN MANAGEMENT requal Wednesday 27/11/19 at 6:30pm.  Contact to register for this.

A reminder for those yet to do them that Ian will be at the beach 0700 this Saturday 16th November for requals (driver and crew). It will take approx half an hour, dependant on how many are there. Following this Saturday there will be one more opportunity to requal (Saturday 23rd November). If you haven't requaled by Jan 31st you will be unable to use the boats and I will be solid on that this year as it exposes our Club's insurance. Should these final two dates not be suitable, please reply to this post or email me at and I'll see what magic I can conjure.

Woodside Nippers
Woodside Nipper Apparel
All the Woodside Nippers apparel that has been handed out is organized through SLSWA  and not the uniform shop. For any issues please email myself , Jess or your Senior Age Manager. For parents wanting to replace lost items, we won’t be able to get any stock in until early December when SLSWA will be able to release it. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. Please look after your gear and clearly label with your nippers name.
NRC, SRC  and Bronze Courses
For parents wanting to get more involved in helping, this great program water safety is a perfect way to get your toes wet.
A Nipper Rescue Certificate course will be run on the morning of 23rd of November by some of our wonderful club trainers if your keen please fill out the form on the link -
Please be aware that all NRC participants will be required to swim 200 meters in 9 minutes so if you haven’t swam in a while I’d suggest to get a swim in.
Board Training
At this time of the season board training is only open to U/8 through to U/13. We will possibly add the U7 later in the season. Thank you in advance for your understanding and please read posts carefully. It’s great to see so many nippers turning up to training but unfortunately nippers aren’t collecting boards and putting them in the trailer for the Hillarys session and landing down at Hillarys and taking someone’s board that have loaded in the trailer. I’d like this to stop from now on.
Parents please be aware water safety is required and it is essential we have the right ratios of water safety so our awesome coaches can deliver the session to the fullest capacity. Training sessions will be catered to the water safety ratios so if we don’t have enough a lot of athletes will be standing out of the water. Also a reminder to all athletes to collect a board and to wash and put away their boards in the correct age appropriate spots.
Beach Training
Please keep an eye on the Sorrento Juniors Facebook page for updates on beach training. It’s great to see a great crew turning up each week. Please come with age cap and hi vis vest for the coaches to work out age groups and of course names on caps too.
Thank You
Thank you to all the club members involved with the looking after one of our injured Nippers Freya from Purple Caps last Sunday morning. Well done to all. Hopefully Freya will be back at it this Sunday at Nippers!

Some of our under 8's on the weekend. Thanks for the amazing shot Andrew Mayberry!

Another great turn out by the Youth again last Sunday, with over 50 members doing the club swim, water and beach activities as well as having the opportunity to have a go in the IRB. Thank you to Declan Burke and his crew for taking the Youth out and bringing them for a spin, they were so pumped after the spin that they want do their IRB crew course now!
Along with joining in the Youth activities some of our members provided the water safety of the club swim, went to the nipper age groups to do water safety and help run activities.
A special mention goes to one of our U/17’s Declan Cook, Declan for the last two weeks has run a board coaching session by himself for 16 Youth members that have never being on a board before. Thanks champ.
Going forward from this Sunday, we would like all Youth to meet at the Youth flag and sign in at 8:45am, then proceed to the Club Swim flag where the swim will start at 9am. Our age manager for this Sunday is Jeremy Stevens and he along with Kylie will be sorting out youth activities so any parents who are able to assist would be much appreciated as the other age managers will be at the mullaloo carnival.

We are also looking for someone to help run our club swims on a Sunday morning during the season, if you are interested please email
For those parents that are not going to the carnival at Mullaloo on Sunday, we are looking for helpers to help run Youth Activities as all of our Age Managers will be at the Carnival, please introduce yourself to Kylie and she will direct you in the right direction.
Good luck to all those competing at the Mullaloo carnival this Sunday. Go Sorrento.
