Junior News
Thankfully we were able to run our Junior awards night for the 2019/20 season and what a great turn out we had! Thank you for all the families that made an effort to come along, especially our senior age managers, coaches, assistant age managers, and of course, our brilliant athletes.
I’d like to congratulate all our discipline medalists, club champions and Age Manager awards recipients. It was great to acknowledge your hard work and effort put in throughout the season. For the nippers that attended the night without receiving a medal and came along to support their teammates, you are the reason we put mighty in Mighty Team Green! It was great to have you as part of the team!
On Friday night, we were fortunate to have Senior club athletes Ash and Jacko present our medals. Thank you again for providing our nippers with an extra special moment with your involvement. It is very much appreciated! If you weren’t able to attend and your Nipper was to receive a medal, your Senior Age Manager will present them at your age group sundowner presentation.
Thanks again to Amanda, Bernadette, Watto and the club staff on Friday and Saturday. I know there were a few hurdles to jump through over the weekend, but I think you guys made the best of it, so well done!
On Saturday, we had our new members sign up day. Well done to Jess and her team of helpers who welcomed our new families into the club.
I’d like to make special mention of our Senior Age Managers, Assistant Age Managers and Nipper parents that gave up their Saturday afternoon to help in assisting new families to sign up and inform them about becoming a member of Sorrento. You are all absolute legends!
At this stage, our sundowner for the under 6s to under 9s is going ahead. Unfortunately, the long-range forecast isn’t favorable at the moment, and we really want to get as many of our nippers and their families to attend so if we need to postpone the event, we will inform you ASAP.
Have a great week!

Last Saturday, 8th August was re-registration of memberships, and we had hundreds of new registrations. You can pay your membership following the below steps if you are existing members.
If you have any new members in your family, you must come down to the office and fill in forms for them.
Our membership prices are on our website; they are the same price as last season.
After months of anticipation I can announce everyone’s favourite, the “Formula 1 of the water” season kicks off at Sorrento in a couple of weeks. WA and QLD are the only states racing this year so we’re expecting a lot of national interest.
Racing starts at 10.30am so a great opportunity to grab a coffee and B&E roll after training and wander down for a look. It’d also be great to see a few nippers down early before the 3pm presentations.
Racing will finish at 1.30 pm and conditions dependant, we can take those that are eager (young or old) out for a ride. See you in a couple of weeks.
Jetski Course
Our current Jetski course is going well. Sunday they covered Topic 3 - Driving skills and emergency drills. Despite the ominous weather forecast, the conditions were mild and despite the strong wind the team was able to learn and practice the new skills.
Bronze/SRC/ART Training and Requal Update
SLSWA is rolling out significant updates to the Bronze and SRC courses to Sorrento trainers on 27th August. The trainers will then met again on 3rd September to review and clarify these changes and to agree on consistent approaches to training etc.
What this means for club members is that very soon after these sessions we should be able to firm up plans for requals and future courses. Watch this space and we will advise more once we’ve had our update.
