Youth News
A huge congratulations to the Nippers States Team!! An awesome result and while we couldn’t all be there to cheer you on we were there in spirit. A lot of personal bests and achievements that you should all be proud of. We are immensely proud of all the competitors, the age managers, support crew and also importantly your age group team mates that may not have been there competing but are also such an integral part of the Sorrento culture and its successes. We can’t wait to see you join us in Youth.
Program changes
Some changes to the upcoming timetable for the next few weeks.
Sunday 21st March - U13’s will be joining the Youth for the Sunday session.
Sunday 28th March - There will be NO Youth session at Sorrento on Sunday 28th March, as most of the Youth Committee will be at the States.. All youth are encouraged to either come along and cheer for the “Green Machine” at the State Championships at Scarborough, or assist in running the Nipper end of Season function at Sorrento.
Saturday 3rd April - We will hold our final beach session on Saturday 3rd April from 8.30am to 10.00 am following by a morning tea at the Club. We will have a final swim and Board, followed by games and Morning tea. Youth are requested to bring a plate to the morning tea that demonstrates their baking skills.
Saturday 10th April - Youth Wind up as per the details already communicated by Marina. Please respond to Marina’s email if you have not already done so.
Sunday Session 14th March - On Sunday, Sorrento Youth welcomed the Scarborough U14 Youth. While numbers were down with Youth and Age Managers spread from Scarborough to patrols to helping out with the nipper age groups we still ended up having 24 Sorrento Youth and 13 Scarboro U14’s. A full ski contingent of youth (10) headed out and the remainder took on a Sunday program that was loosely based on a Champion Patrol Event with 4 teams of 6-7 competing over 4 events. Teams were random with Scarboro & Sorrento youth working together in mixed teams. It was fantastic to see all you take on this format for the first time.
Event1: Team Surf Race
Event 2: Beach Relay (2 x 1km relays)
Event 3: 5pp Board Rescue / 3pp Carry across finish line
Event 4: Theory Paper (17 multiple choice questions taken from past U15 Champion Life Saver events) – Yep, this was probably the event that drew the most groans but was also the event where the teams really came together.
In between all of this T1&T2 out muscled T3&T4 on the Tug of War.
While the results were tallied up the group split up into an endurance paddle to Hillarys marina wall and the beachies after warm ups competed in flags. Really fantastic to see the SO/SC youth work so well together and make it easy for the managers on the day. A huge thanks to Matt, Hal, Lisa on the Sorrento side and Belinda, Nicole & Richard on the Scarboro side.
Team 4 won the day on 40 points and claimed the prize. T1,2 & 3 all finished within 9 points. Congrats to all it was hopefully a fun day.
Thanks to everyone for bringing the gear up, washing it down and returning it to the racks!!
Thanks
The Youth Committee
