Senior State R&R Championships
The R&R Senior Championships where held at Sorrento on Saturday. In beautiful weather our teams again did magnificently winning 4 of the 5 events.
In an exciting outcome for Sorrento our three 2 Person Youth teams tied at the end of the competition with 1st, 2nd and 3rd being decided on a countback. With all teams going to Aussies, it will make for an interesting national championship!

With near perfect conditions it was fantastic to see so many of the Redcaps U13’s join youth. Thank you to the Redcaps Age Managers that were able to help with the session! It was greatly appreciated and we are looking forward to the added help next season as there was a lot of enthusiasm shown by the redcaps to get onto the long boards, challenge the Youth in a tug-o-war, and to have some fun in the water and on the sand. It looks like a great rivalry has been formed for future tug-o-wars and I think the U13’s will be back as youth to take out the U15-U19’s in a rematch. Congratulations to all that completed the Youth Swim. We ended up with 4 waves and nearly 60+ swimmers churning up the water. Especially great to see the cheering on of finishing swimmers.
With 36 Redcaps and 30 Youth checking it. Sunday was all about being a chance to allow the youth to show the U13’s what our Sunday Sessions are like and also to have a chat about what other pathways exist within youth at the club. With 155+ Youth Members our U14-U19’s are one of our largest age groups at the club. While the numbers on Sunday Sessions fluctuate between 30-50, what isn’t as visible is the number of youth that are patrolling, volunteering, helping out as water safety at events and nipper sessions, training as Assistant Age Managers, Officiating at events and competing. This year we have had Youth undertake Youth Age Manager Program (13), Youth Coach (3), Youth Leader Program (2), Youth Official (4) and Youth Trainer (2). Most of the U14’s completed their SRC and U15’s + completed their Bronze or requalified. All this in a year that has been under a COVID cloud and the pressures that come when you are trying to juggle chores, school, exams, work, sport and a social life.
We hope that all Redcaps had a great Sunday. To those that couldn’t make it down, if you (or your parents) want to have a chat to any of our age managers and the committee, please reach out to us. We want to see as many Redcaps join our Youth Program in 2021/22. We are looking forward to challenging you, helping you achieve your goals, having fun and making our Sorrento Youth Program the best on the beach / surf.

The Youth Committee
Wow, I can’t believe this will be our last Nipper session on Sunday for the season. The forecast is looking like another fantastic day to spend on the beach so I hope to see everyone make the most of it!
Friday night we have the U10 to U13 awards night where we get to acknowledge our Club Champions along with various awards for the age groups. Please make sure if your eating to book through your age group manager.
This Sunday we will all meet on the main beach in front of the club at your age group flags at 8:45 then we will try to organize a whole team photo at 9 am.
Then the President's Marathon will be run for age groups from U7 through to U13 this is always a great event and really illustrates the improvement in so many of our Nippers from the start of the season. Parents who are qualified in water safety please come prepared to get wet.
Then we will have age group presentations held across the beach and in the club with participation medals and certificates handed out by the age managers. Once that’s all done it’s a great opportunity for everyone to let your hair down and reflect on another great season at Sorrento. Inflatables will be available from 10:30 with wrist bands for unlimited rides available from the balcony for $5.
Just to make my previous post clear, Board training is on until the school holidays so there is three sessions left. we have this Wednesday session, Saturday morning and the last session will be Wednesday the 31st March. We will then have a 4 week break.
On behalf of the Juniors, we would like to wish all our Youth and Senior athletes, coaches, managers and volunteers involved at this weekend's State Championships the very best of luck! Also a big well done to our R&R who were dominant at their state champs last weekend
Let’s go Mighty Mighty Sorrento!

Message in Motion Update
To all those who agreed to support this campaign it is unfortunate that the WA Road Safety Commission confirmed this past week that they will not be renewing their partnership/sponsorship of our surf clubs.
The senior RSC person has decided to focus their community engagement budget elsewhere. It was stressed that the model, results and the clubs' support was exceptional.
