Woodside Nippers

That was another full-on weekend at Sorrento Surf lifesaving Club.  Firstly can I say how proud and inspiring it was to watch our 180 plus athletes steel their nerves and represent mighty Sorrento in less than ideal conditions for the first Woodside Nippers carnival of the year. I congratulate all our nippers who had a crack on the day.
It is a huge undertaking for the club to take on running these carnivals but just seeing so many of our green caps on the beach makes the effort totally worth it.
All areas of the club worked really hard over the last few weeks to make our carnival come together I’d like to acknowledge:
The Youth Committee and of course the youth members along with their parents who ran the bbq, parking at sacred heart and drinks stand. We had Youth help out at the younger Nipper groups whilst others were officials and water safety for the carnival, great effort everyone.
To the lifesaving members that helped deliver a safe and controlled event, to all our IRB and jet-ski operators, to first aid and water safety coordinator along with our club patrols that assisted where they could super effort.
To our club referees and officials, your guidance and steady hand are crucial in the running of these carnivals especially when things aren’t quite going to plan. A huge thank you to our special MC who kept the beach informed and held some great interviews.
Thank you to the club staff for looking after the officials and carnival volunteers after a long day on the beach also to the office sorting out athletes registration the program and beach bookings.
The last people I’d like to thank is the set up crew, pack up crew, beach boys, junior committee, our awesome senior age managers, assistant age managers and parent helpers.
You guys rock when the majority of people are rushing off the beach tired hot and bothered, you dig deep and get stuck in I appreciate all of your efforts and I hope you are all aware how important you are to what our club delivers every year.
Congratulations to the 50 Nipper parents who completed  their NRC course under the guidance of Paul Berry on Saturday morning
This Sunday morning Paul will be running a NRC requal meet at the boat shed at 8 am
Christmas Party

This Sunday will be our last Nipper day of the year we love to see off the year with a nippers Christmas party we expect a special visit from Santa even with his hectic schedule he still finds time to visit our very own beach I wonder what mode of transport he will arrive on this year? Inflatables are available after nippers. You can purchase  $5 wristbands from the balcony  for unlimited rides. The bar will be open for families wanting to hang around for lemonade or coffee if they wish.

I’d like to wish all our Sorrento Nippers and their families a safe and Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in 2021!

See you on the beach

Keiron Burke
Junior Director

A huge weekend for youth and the club!! Sorrento Seniors / Youth comp at Sorrento on Sat followed up with Nippers Carnival on Sunday. Thank you to the club for all the organisation that went into the weekend setup and running of the back to back events and making it an incredible weekend of competition at the best club on the beach 😊.
What a difference in the weather conditions!! A hot and humid Saturday saw over 25 Sorrento youth compete. Some fantastic personal efforts and results and great to also see a number of the youth at their first comp. Well done we are very proud of everyone that competed and helped out on the day.
Thank you also to all the youth and parents that helped out on Sunday with the Bacon & Eggs, BBQ, Lollie & Drink Stand and the Parking. Marina, Darren and Anthony a special thanks for coordinating and organising the fundraising opportunity. Great to see the youth and parents digging in an often doing well beyond their rosters duty. You are awesome!
During the carnival we also still had the Youth Flag flying with 15 of the youth check in and then split up and help the Green / Yellow and Pink caps run their Sunday sessions. There is something special that happens within a club when you have the U14 – U17 play games, activities and help with water safety with 6-9 yr olds. When you have an U17 play duck, duck, goose with the U6’s that is continues to build the Sorrento  club culture.
Not forgetting all the youth on Patrol keeping our beaches safe, Youth in the IRB’s setting the cans for the Carnivals and those working as Officials!
Don’t forget to mark all the support activities down on your YIP points and get them to Olivia!
** A quick reminder to all those that use Club Boards. Please ensure that these boards are always washed and returned back to their racks. As a club we pride ourselves on providing equipment to all our members, but can only do this if we are to care for the equipment. If you have to leave a competition early and are sharing the board please make sure you let your managers or team mates know so that we organise its wash and return. If it is damaged or you notice any damage, please report it to us so that we can get the board tagged and can also work to ensure that we minimise any further damage.
Have a great week and see you back on the beach on Sunday if not before at training this week.  We’d love to see as many of you as possible participating in the Senior President’s marathon this Sunday either individually or as a team of two.
We will have a break on Sunday 27th Dec, but Youth will be back on the beach on 3rd Jan. for those who want to join us.
After a well-earned Christmas break the next Senior carnivals for you to enter will be the country carnival in Bunbury over the weekend of 23rd & 24th January, Mullaloo on 21st February and Trigg on 7th March.

Once again, thanks for all of your wonderful support!!!
