20/21 Patrol Roster
The 20/21 patrol roster has been released.
Patrols
There are lots of exciting initiatives that we are introducing this season to ensure that patrols continue to be a fun and rewarding experience. Some of these are outlined below:
Firstly of all rather than getting automatically assigned to a patrol you will be asked to “opt in” to patrol. You should have received an email from your Patrol Captain advising that if you wish to be included in a patrol team for the upcoming season then you need to advise them. If you haven’t received an email please advise either your Captain or the office if you wish to “opt in” for your patrol.
To “opt in” means you intend to attend the majority of your rostered patrols or make every effort to arrange a substitute for any patrols you can’t make.
We acknowledged that getting a substitute can be difficult at times, therefore to make it easier to find a substitute we are offering a number of options:
There is a fantastic on line Patrol Swap tool in the ‘SLSA Members Portal’ (https://members.sls.com.au), which every member has access to. Simply log in and under the Patrol tab and you can request a substitute for any patrols that you can’t attend and also under Patrol Swap you can see a list of patrols where others have requested a substitute and nominate yourself to fill in for them. The system also sends an acknowledgement email to both parties when a swap has been accepted
You can also still use the patrol face book page if you wish
We will be setting up a buddy system across patrols where we will assign everyone to groups of people that you can contact and ask for a swap.
We also acknowledge that some members have difficulty in committing to a roster due to other commitments (e.g. work commitments, FIFO etc) yet still wish to patrol and fulfill their club and community service. If you don’t think you can commit to a roster as per above, there is an option to be on included in an Auxiliary Patrol Team, which means you are not included in the roster and can fulfill your hours by filling in as a substitute for others or attending patrols when you can – you need to advise us if you wish to nominate to the Beach Committee for inclusion in the Auxiliary Patrol.
If we don’t hear back from you will not be added to any patrol teams.
All patrols this season have been reduced from 4 hours to 3 hours. Patrols commence on Saturday 17th October and continue to the end of March with morning only patrols 9am to 12.00 for October, moving to 2 patrols per day in November and December and 3 patrols per day from January.
There are lots more exciting initiatives that we are introducing this season which your Patrol Captains will detail when they see you on patrol.
19/20 Patrol Photo
Due to the abrupt end to last season caused by Covid 19 we were unable to have our traditional End of Season Patrol Photo. We are still determined to ensure that we have a photo to mark the 19/20 season and will have a belated, yet somehow socially distanced photo on Sunday 25th October at 1pm, so come down in your patrol uniform and be part of club history. The bar will be open for refreshment’s.

COMPETITION
With the season underway we have several carnivals to work toward.
The first of the IRONMAN series was last weekend at Mullaloo with several Sorrento caps to be seen.
Well done to everyone that brushed of the winter woollies and jumped in the water.
The Enduro event was definitely a tough one to start with, but you all made Sorrento proud, from the U14/15 first up, you were amazing even while coping stingers all over & some swallowing them.!
Then came the Seniors with athletes choosing to compete up saw some amazing results that has reflected the long hours of training over the winter. Special mention to Ben Snook who showed the capabilities of someone well beyond his years.
This coming weekend we have another Round of IRB Racing at Mullaloo Beach. Please get down to Mullaloo and support our hard-working athletes that never cease to display much excitement for spectators. We have several teams entered so there should be plenty of Green caps to watch throughout the event.
Following on from this, we have the SunSmart WA Ironman Series #3 & Endurance Champs right here, at our beach, on 31st October.
We would really like to see as many competitors with Sorrento caps on as possible once again.
Details of this will be available shortly, normally a 6 km ski paddle involved.
Your Ski Coaches & Captain would like to see as many paddlers competing in this event as possible.
If you need a Spec Ski for this event please see Peta Watkins for allocation.
We are looking forward to a big season for Sorrento All over the beach.
