Between the Groynes

Broome Carnival – July School Holidays

This year’s carnival held by the Broome Surf Life Saving Club during the middle weekend of the school Holidays is likely to go ahead although no official notification has been sent.

If you are considering going to Broome during that period and have heard of accommodation available at the Broome Camp School you will need to contact the office and leave your details.

Due to the popularity of Broome during this period there has already been a lot of interest from all W.A Surf Life Saving Clubs and as such accommodation at the School is very limited, and all available caravan/campervan/tent spots are full. Some dormitory accommodation may be available but will be wait listed.

You do not have to stay at the Camp School to be a part of the carnival and other activities however other accommodation sites in Broome are also at a premium during that time including Caravan /campervan spots.

Abalone and WA Swimming Open Water Swim

I would like to thank everyone who came down on the weekend for Abalone, Patrol or the Australia Day Swim to do water safety. These are fundraiser's for our club and help us out so much! Thank you again and well done on a top event on the weekend!

We are always looking for new crew members to join our group . If you have the desire to  have a go in the boats just give Watto a ring on 0409 471 470 and he can line up a morning for a try out.
During the Country Carnival, last weekend in Bunbury the Ladies crew The Gypseas made it through to the A  Final. Well done ladies and I am sure you all gave it your best. The ocean can be very unforgiving at times and the rough shore break left the girls on the shore with a broken oar and one crew member slightly injured. All ok now.
Next time it’s ours!
Yours in boats

Youth Program

Sunday Session:

A huge thank you to Lisa and Hal for running the youth Sunday Session! Congrats to the youth that turned up on Sunday - Great board paddle, body surf and helping the youngest age group 😀
Sat Board / Iron Training: There will no board / iron training this coming Saturday we hope that you will be all challenging yourself with the club mile swim 😊.
Bunbury Country Carnival Youth Recap:
Our Youth were out in force at the country carnival over the weekend.
On Saturday afternoon there were podium places in both male and female sprints and the 2km beach run and some stand out efforts from competitors who really challenged themselves and showed enormous grit and tenacity.
Sunday saw the water events and a packed program of individual events along with mixed Cameron and Board Relays; while this made for a long day with around six hours between Iron heats and finals this didn’t deter our fantastic youth with a highlight being 13 Sorrento girls taking the line for Surf race the penultimate youth event for the carnival with four Sorrento swimmers making the top ten in an enormous field of  48!
Well done to all of our youth who came down and competed and supported it was also great to see some standout performances from our 13 athletes who competed in the same arena.
Results for individual events  can be found here

Woodside Nippers

Well all I can say is a huge thank you to all the Sorrento families that were able to make the trek to the country carnival on the weekend. It was absolutely fantastic to see so much of the Mighty Sorrento green at Bunbury. What a fantastic team to be part of!
As usual thank you to all our Senior Age Managers and their assistants for looking after your team’s, a special mention to the ones that were able to put two days in as that was a mighty effort!
Congratulations to all the Little Nippers and Nippers who had a crack this weekend you were all absolutely brilliant the way you competed over the whole carnival.
Thank you to the Yates clan for towing the board trailer down and to the Geneff gang for returning the Junior board trailer back to the club and unloading all the boards and tents super effort!
It never seems to surprise me on how our parents jump in when asked and get involved! We had so many parents jump in and do water safety and when extra numbers were called on it was our parents that answered the call.

Thank you to all our IRB crews and water safety over the whole weekend, you were all brilliant and your involvement is very much appreciated.
For the crew that was left in Perth, I was informed the morning went well and again. Thank you to our set up/pack up crew and age managers that ran the sessions.
Thanks must go out to any of our parents and families who also were able to assist the club in abalone, open water swim or just patrol over the last few days super effort!

Thankfully this Sunday we are all back for a normal nipper Sunday I think we all our looking forward to that!
Can’t wait to see everyone back at Sorrento on Sunday!
