Community Spotlight

Tuesday is Election Day.  If you plan on voting locally and in-person, make a travel plan ahead of time and don't forget to wear a mask!

Burlington has 8 voting wards. Use this map to find your polling place. For out-of-state voting, check out the resources at MTV's Rock the Vote.

UVM Civic Engagement, in collaboration with staff and faculty, is hosting an Election Support Series: Process Within Affinity. We recognize that this election cycle is particularly overwhelming in relation to the current pandemic and racial climate within our nation, and we encourage students to connect with peers, faculty, and staff to collectively process, ponder and understand the current state of our world. Details for each breakout affinity space below.

RESERVE your space today.

Other UVM Events
The Alianza Latinx student group and the UVM Alumni Association invite you to this year’s Café con Leche on Thursday, November 5th at 7-8 p.m., EST. In spite of recent limitations due to COVID-19, we will be hosting our event virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Networking is an important aspect of many students' college experiences and our goal is to keep this opportunity open and present for all. BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) Alumni play a special role in this event, as we often find ourselves struggling to see where our future will take us. Alumni provide us with a sense of clarity and direction.
It would be an honor to have you participate in this upcoming ALX Café con Leche. You’ll hear from a panel of BIPOC alumni who will share their experience following graduation and their advice for the job search during the Pandemic. We’ll have plenty of time for connecting following the panel.
Please register online at

Wednesday 11/11: Affinity Panels
On November 11th, we will be offering a series of identity-based panels that feature working professionals who identify with different underrepresented groups in STEM, including Black, Indigenous & People of Color; LGBTQIA+; and women. Please note that these events are intended to provide space for students and networkers to connect across shared identities, and are only open to those who identify as members of the shared identity group.

The Prism Center is so excited to be hosting a series of affinity spaces for our LGBTQIA2S+ UVM student community this year! This affinity space meets once a month as an opportunity for Bisexual, Pansexual, and other students who identify with middle sexuality to gather socially in community with one another and have thoughtful conversations about their experiences centered on specific topics.

They’ll be meeting on Wednesdays 9/30, 10/28, and 12/2 from 3:30-4:30pm. Our first meeting will be in-person and the rest will be virtual.

Please check out the Prism Center web calendar and stay tuned to our Instagram for more details about each meeting. And if you have any questions about this space email Alex Hazzard at!

I’m excited to share that we have now launched our application for our Summer 2021 Internship Program. Students will now be able to use one application to apply for both our Summer Program and our current opportunities (i.e., full and part-time jobs, fall / spring internships, etc.).
Another exciting development at LifeSci NYC is that we have scheduled Virtual Info Sessions that are open to interested students from all universities. The schedule and links for these sessions are as follows:  We will also soon be posting recordings on our website so that students unable to attend one of the above sessions may learn about our program at their own convenience. I will be sure to send you links once they are available.
While each of our live virtual sessions will include an opportunity for Q&A, we will also be offering virtual office hours so that students with additional questions after attending a live or recorded session may make an appointment to chat for a few minutes with me or our Program Coordinator, Kaylynn Mayo.
As a final note, I offer a reminder that students will only be able to access our list of available summer opportunities once they have completed their comprehensive online application. Students wishing to apply for current opportunities, however, may view them HERE, and will be directed to our online application should they wish to apply.
Feel free to reach out with any questions.

Dear community, friends and colleagues,
The Mosaic Center for Students of Color (MCSC) is honored to facilitate our mission to serve you, our broad, diverse and complex community of color here at The University of Vermont (UVM).  Our communication mechanisms, including The Scoop, social media, posters and flyers in and around the Center, etc,  share information about the broadest possible range of University sanctioned information and offerings that might appeal to individuals and/or groups that are a part of our community.

We understand that there might be divergent needs and opinions about items that might be publicized and we hope that there will be, at a minimum, tolerance for our different perspectives and necessities.  The staff of the MCSC does not necessarily support the views of every item that might be shared through our outlets but, as long as said programs/events are UVM-affiliated, we believe it should be communicated to our audience as well.

The MCSC staff alone, in collaboration with University officials,  has the authority to declare whether or not certain information is shared from this space via The Scoop, social media, flyers/posters, etc.  We are happy to entertain conversations, questions and/or concerns regarding any material but, reserve the right to make the final decision about what can be shared and in what manner.
Our goal is to hold space so that each of us, with our similarities and differences, can make a home within The MCSC.
Please help us make this goal a reality. Bring your respect, courage and aspiration for the beautiful community to the work of co-creating an environment where we can all belong.

With love,
The MCSC Team
