What do you love about being part of a virtual team?

Our communication world has shifted.  Have you noticed?  If you do not currently communicate virtually, you will soon.  Even my 76 year old Dad is texting and using Google Duo since he has an Android phone. Love you Dad!

If you have not yet joined the "virtual communication" cheer team; consider this.....  the first recorded phone call was placed in 1876.  If you have placed a phone call since that date in 1876 you have technically been communicating "virtually."

Here is the definition of virtual communication: VIRTUAL COMMUNICATION

Virtual communication: Even according to Tech Walla the "absence" of being "present" while communicating live is virtual communication.  Relax people. We have been communicating virtually for a long, long time.  Yes, Grandma Irene (turning 99 years young very soon), you are part of this movement!  The absence of being present while being able to communicate live is just one of the things I love about being part of a virtual team.

My passion for virtual communication began in 2002 as I was inducted as a team member to WebEx before Cisco acquired the company in 2007.

With the birth of more recent technologies such as WebEx, Zoom, Adobe Connect, Fuze, Citrix Go-To-Meeting, Cisco Telepresence the depth to which we communicate live while being absent of real time presence only continues to enhance. We continue to grow and learn new methods of live, virtual communication as a global community. This is extremely exciting for me as CEO of this woman owned company.

At the end of the day, I love being able to share information with a global team. I love being able to work from home if the end meets the needs.  I love being able to tend to clients real time if they need us on a moments' notice (in any time zone.)  I love knowing I am building a team with the absolute BEST customer service and client care in the industry.  Please let us know how we can best serve your virtual team whether this is a 1:1 Coaching, Team Workshop or Event Production

How do I build a successful virtual team?
This question is one I am asked almost every day.  I am so pleased more and more leaders are taking an increasingly proactive approach to team building in the virtual environment.  Since remote teams and virtual workforces seem to become the “norm” these days, acquiring the unique skillset to successfully build and manage these teams is mandatory. Bubbles and Biscuits – Presenting to a multi-cultural audience
When you are presenting to multi-cultural audiences please be aware there may be significant differences in the use of certain linguistic terms. You would be well suited to flesh out these terms in advance. You may wish to consider accepting impromptu questions from the audience via chat during the live presentation to further define the use of certain terminology. Read more...
We love our Virtual Team at Everything Webinar - they are so engaged and even decided to all contribute to our newsletter with their personal thoughts on Virtual Teams!

We love being able to work virtually! First and foremost, it gives us the ability to meet people we'd never otherwise get the chance to meet. We started back in 1995 and have met people from all over the world. We've developed rich friendships and business associates, clients and peers. We can have meetings with people on their time, no matter what time of day it is for us.

On the personal side, we can set our own hours if we want to. Working virtually allows more flexibility with our lives and schedules. We can work anywhere we want - working at the beach has happened once or twice. If there's an Internet connection, we can work there. It's not for everyone, but for us, it's what allows us to provide the best to our clients

I like being part of a virtual team because I can control my environment. When you work inside an office the company controls what equipment you have and everything that you can use for your work .  Working virtually I can control what computers I have what monitors I have an really control anything I need to so I can support a training or webinar.  I also like working at home from my studio because I can really work with my “work life balance”,   I can work hard when I'm working and then when I do get my breaks or lunches I can take that time to do anything I need to do around the house to support our family life. For me this is a great balance to help with anything I need to do during the day.  Jerry Chiea - Virtual Event and Training Specialist for Everything Webinar

Why I love being part of a Virtual Team
I love being part of a virtual team for many reasons.  However, my most favored reason lies in the freedom that allows for team members to interact with each other anytime, anywhere.  Because of this freedom there is little loss of continuity in completing projects; the ability of any team member to pick up where another left off is unparalelled. In addition, team members have an increased focus on the tasks that need completing and are able to accomplish those tasks and find greater and faster success because of the decreased time in decision-making which is often slowed due to in-person organizational bureaucracy.

As you know, Everything Webinar’s principal action group has six (6) people, spread from the UK, Oregon, Florida and Ohio.  We meet online once a week through WebEx, and are, therefore, a “Virtual Team.”  Of all the advantages surrounding virtual teamwork provides, LOCATION is the most powerful.  I don’t have any significant distance to physically travel, yet I’m relatively free to move while still participating in the meeting.  A fresh cup of coffee isn’t out of the question, nor is a drive to the airport.  Granted, you lose the visual component with the two previous examples, but you’ve still gained tremendous flexibility in your location options.  Why, one could say that Virtual Teamwork allows me to actually multi-task, of which I have no natural acumen.

The next most-powerful attribute of virtual-teaming would have be VISUAL SHARING.  No, I don’t care about your hair.  I do care about understanding ideas and concepts by screen-sharing, which becomes easier with every virtual meeting!  Hearing it, while SEEING it helps me understand it.

Working in a Virtual Team should come naturally to me as a Virtual Assistant – Virtual is my world! Although the key word here is ‘Team’. It can be lonely working as a VA, although I interact with clients with telephone calls and Skype meetings, I have at time missed being part of a team. That was until I worked with Everything Webinar and became part of this amazing team. We regularly meet face to face, okay it’s on a screen, but we are visual with facial expressions, conversations and live interaction – you can’t beat it!

And all this happens from my home office in the UK, alongside our team from all over the world. We are aware of each other’s time zones and can find a time that suits us all. Being part of a virtual team has taught me so many lessons in cross cultural communication, we embrace and enjoy each other’s use of language and traditions and hope we have made the world a smaller more understanding place for each other. My name is Emali Allen and I am brand new to being part of a virtual team.  In fact, I am only 13 years old.  However, I love learning what my Mom teaches and I love being part of meetings all around the world.  It is so much fun knowing I can connect with people in other countries by pushing a button and connecting my audio.  I cannot wait to share more of the GenZ perspective on the virtual world in the months to come.  Thank you for reading my post.
